S2 E14 ‘the Icarus factor’ I think is one of the most random filler episodes in this series. And it has one of the b-plotiest, b-plots I’ve ever seen.

"You should've been the one to die, not her" WHAT THE HELL?? what is this episode what the HELL is going on why are they fighting each other and why is Worf also going through it?? I'm baffled

All jokes aside, I'm really glad Riker stayed on board because like,,, the nature of a Captaincy is so different compared to TOS that it's like the equivalent of making Kirk an Admiral. If Riker were a Captain, he wouldn't be able to go down on away missions and do what he's so good at. Sure, getting that higher rank is an honor, but I don't think a Captaincy would work well with the nature of his character. Maybe I'll be proven wrong in the future (because with how many seasons there are, a promotion for Riker seems almost inevitable; we'll see) but I'm glad Riker stayed on as First Officer.

I think that me and my Dad fighting each other with giant Q-tips like Commander Riker and his dad in "The Icarus Factor" would heal me.

Or, at least, it would be fun.

If I were a Star Trek writer I’d have them go back to the ‘Ursula K Le Guin Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas’ planet from SNW and find out that actually sacrificing a child was a test they were failing and refusing would unlock greater power or some shit and title it like ‘The Isaac conundrum’
