Did anybody else grow up in the church hearing the sermon that went “the people expected Jesus to ride into the city on a warhorse and bring down divine wrath over the sinners, but he rode in on a donkey not to kill for us but to die for us” but then the sermon ended with “but THIS time he’s for sure going to come down and bring the fires of hell and the wrath of heaven upon the fallen world and its sinners and enemies of the church and you don’t want to be ‘left behind’” or was that just me?

I’d just like to point out how often this way of thinking is refuted in the text of the Bible itself, beyond the Palm Sunday/crucifiction example above, you also have Jonah sitting on the hill over Nineveh gleefully awaiting God’s wrath on the wicked city which never came (interesting that the focus on that story is usually on the whale part and leaves this out), and the parable of the prodigal son, whose brother complains to their father that the son is welcomed back after screwing up so royally

This trend of retellings often trades historical respect for a flat narrative of victimhood that fits better on a social media mood board than in a serious exploration of the Bronze Age.

By painting all of ancient Greek history with the same bleak depressing narrative, authors like Jennifer Saint ignore the complexity of Minoan Crete, of a society where women held significant religious authority, participated in public spectacles like bull-leaping, and lived in a culture far less patriarchal than the later Iron Age systems we often mistake for "all of history." Ironically, presenting Ariadne solely as a tragic bystander to male cruelty isn't at all "feminist", but it’s a form of historical erasure that strips away the specific cultural agency those women possessed. Not to mention it makes Ariadne a shell for the author to project her ideologies on the culture while not writing the core protagonist as someone with a personality, goals, dreams for the reader to care.

It turns a sophisticated civilization into a generic trope for modern audiences, ultimately profiting from the "aesthetic" of Greece while reducing human history to a "Handmaid’s Tale" archetype just to bank on a popular contemporary trope.

My family is currently in Gaza, and we are struggling to survive the ongoing war. My father is in constant pain and urgently needs spinal surgery.

As you can see from his X-ray, he has significant hardware in his back that requires professional medical intervention. Because of the border closures and the destruction of our local healthcare system, the only way he can receive this surgery is by traveling to Egypt.

I will admit, I got tired with the sprite and the Hades 2 bond forge, but I had fun nonetheless! I. I do not like how I really adore my Calypso, I'm having an internal fight with myself.....
