A tribute to the duck characters that sadly never got to appear in DuckTales 2017
Maybe in thirty years when the next reboot comes they’ll finally get their do
After Launchpad left home Ripcord apparently grew a foot and decided to get super jacked
Loopey character design from punksweets
Launchpad’s Mother Birdie McQuack
Launchpad’s Father Ripcord McQuack
The McQuack absence in DuckTales 2017
In retrospect, it was pretty obvious we were never going to see the McQuacks in DT17. Unlike Fenton's mom who was a recurring character, the McQuack family only appears once in one hundred episodes and I don't think they were ever mentioned again. In DT17 Launchpad never talks about his family or home life. It's not like in "Quack Pack!" he brings up the fact being trapped in the wish would prevent him from ever seeing his family and "The Trickening!" really doesn't paint a good picture of them. It's pretty clear the writers just weren't interested in Launchpad's own family but the family of the Duck/McDuck and, how even friends and non-blood relative are still considered part of family. That's fine, I like found family narratives but I do wish we could have seen The Flying McQuacks. Meeting Launchpad's family would have been a great opportunity to see more depth and different aspects of Launchpad's personality. Then again, maybe a "Top Duck" episode just wouldn't have worked, 17!Launchpad is portrayed more as a purely comic relief character than 87!Launchpad who could just often be a bumbling hero or a klutzy ditz depending on the story. But hey, there are six more episodes I could be proven wrong. Will we see The McQuacks in the upcoming Darkwing Duck? Again, the original show focused more on the found family of Drake, Gosalyn and Launchpad, and only Ripcord got a small cameo in one episode. So hopes aren't too high. But finger crossed it's not impossible. The McQuacks are popular with with DuckTales fans for characters who only appear in one episode. They're well designed and they all likeable characters. Loopey especially, being a cute girl duck who is both defined enough and enough of a blank slate for fans to latch on to and portray in a number of different ways. Remember Launchpad was the breakout character of the original DuckTales so it makes sense that his parents and sister would have fans as well. It's just a shame we never got to see what they could have been in the *17 version.
I just found out the voice actress for Loopey and Birdie McQuack B.J Ward Is a licensed aviator.
