So politics don't really get talked about much in the fandom, but I thought it was interesting that the Mage, who represented the "liberal" side of the spectrum (scholarships to the poor, equal educational access to all) turned out to be the most dictator-like out of every body. The Pitches represented the "conservative" side (called Torys in the UK I heard)- I don't think they got praised, but they didn't get villanized like in other works I see popular in the same fandom (Royal Red White and Blue, I'm looking at You). I'd say Penny's mom was the most ideal- progressive but respectful of tradition, trying to balance it out. AND the book didn't read like political propaganda either, each side had someone to speak for it and I never felt like one was obviously favored over another. Thank you RR for nuance and discussion over telling me what to think
'Your relatives are famous betrayers,' Penny argues. 'There was a time in the 1700s when they weren't even allowed to sign contracts.'
Penelope Bunce, Rainbow Rowell’s Carry On
Baz: Father, please be nice when Snow comes over. He's not like us
Baz: He has feelings
Malcolm: Hmm. And you're CERTAIN this is the boy for you?
Baz: That's exactly the type of thing I don't want you to say in front of him
Fiona: I will fight anyone who insults my nephew
Baz: I'm useless
Fiona, crying: Alright, square up, you beautiful bitch
Baz: Is this a joke? My dad's pranking me, right?
Baz: Wait, he couldn't be! He has no sense of humor!
Baz, on the phone with Fiona: Hey Aunt Fiona, do you have 2,500 bucks?
Fiona: Why the fuck do you need 2,500?
Baz: For an escape room
Fiona: What kind of escape room costs 2,500!?
Baz: Jail
