Going Merry Holidays 2024 (day 2): Sanji x Nami - A broken heart still beats

This was too an entry for a sannamiweek’s event (6 years ago) and song is “Broken heart still beats” from The Rigs.

Not much written back then (original post here) but I remember when I searched for inspiration for the amv and stuff I bumped to the interesting fact that Nami’s and Sanji’s acrs had interesting parallels such as them acting ice cold towards their crewmates after a disappearence, both tried to solve their case by sacrifices (Nami buying her way to freedom, Sanji offering the marriage thinking the enemy would leave the other alone) and both getting backstabbed by the one they thought they’d trust and then both Nami’s and Sanji’s sisters got shot.

Then there was “the farewell- smile" which Nami experienced twice in her life, when she was just a kid and now when Sanji disappeared. Last but not least, both have experienced emotional slaps. I wrote a long post about the emotional slaps and still find it interesting that Nami was so hurt about Sanji’s behavior she found no other ways than to slap him to express herself.

Oopsie, got carried away as always but anyway, the amv itself focuses more on how they both deep down saw the inner struggles of each other. Sanji was the first one to believe that Nami was acting and in Zou/Whole Cake Island Nami was worried from heat to toes and tried her best to find him (whereas Luffy took pretty easy until Luffy vs Sanji fight because after that Luffy was the driving force).

Then in Fishman Island Sanji defended Nami because she was reminded of Arlong’s terrors and despite Jinbei telling his way of the story Sanji still has his doubts even though Nami already forgave him.

Well, the second verse is kind of Nami’s version of her seeing Sanji’s inner fights and her wanting to support him and in the end they both know that despite their awful pasts, their broken hearts are still beating ;)

Ooh, I like the idea of my Jerri having kind of a firm bed.

Concept: Jerrani hunches the body over a lot (in the classic “villain steepling hands together” way), so Jerri sleeps on a firm bed to straighten her back out?
