For any SVSSS fans wondering:
Not every Chinese transmigration novel has a System.
Sometimes the transmigrator gets some of the original’s memories instead. Other times they get nothing!
Many fanfics I’ve read have SY expect a System, or be baffled by the lack of one. However, based on the Chinese works I’ve read, if he really were to transmigrate without a mechanical voice in his head telling him things from the get go, he would probably anticipate a System free transmigration experience. (He certainly might check to be sure, but the lack of a System wouldn’t be at all surprising).
For those that do have Systems, their level of interference varies greatly.
Not all Systems are like SVSSS’s System! I’ll list the variations I’ve seen below.
Basic Information Systems:
These Systems label people so their transmigrators know who they are, and maybe offer some ‘character introduction’ style information like their job, rank or relationship to the transmigrator’s character. (They might even provide a basic map if the transmigrator is lucky.)
They don’t have much personality or care what their transmigrator gets up to. Their only purpose seems to be making sure the poor transmigrator doesn’t have to fake amnesia or something.
Baffling Statistics Systems:
These Systems are very similar to the versions above but they also grant some points, statistics, or other information that is entirely meaningless to the poor transmigrator.
It can be somewhat similar to the points system in SVSSS —in which there are points of various types and they are regularly awarded—however, any acronyms involved will likely go unexplained, and there is often no indication who or what the values apply to.
There can also be character tied statistics, but they typically lack any explanation of scale, measurement criteria, or other details. For Example: Is a strength score of 10 good, bad, or average? Does it mean physical strength, magical strength, or strength of will? Can the value be raised at all, or is it set in stone? Only time will tell!
This lack of context is intentional, as figuring out what the numbers mean is usually tied to some plot twist or other dramatic revelation.
RPG Level-Up Systems:
These Systems let transmigrators gain XP, ‘buy’ skills, and otherwise ‘level up’ their characters. They may also come with an inventory system of some kind.
The SVSSS donghua actually played with some aspects of this variety, showing Shen Qingqiu a list of locked skills and implying he could level up and unlock them somehow.
This type usually isn’t particularly chatty, unless combined with another System variety. It is most often combined with the next type.
Quest Giving System:
This type of System will offer the transmigrator various quests, and/or records quests offered by others (like a video game quest log). Quests are usually optional and there aren’t any System imposed punishments for failing them.
No System imposed punishments doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences though. Said consequences are just the natural result of not doing the assigned task. For Example: Imagine SQQ had neither killed nor captured the skinner demon. Presumably it would have kept on murdering people!
This System variety is far more likely to talk to its user, though it can also give or record quests without commentary.
System Shop:
For when transmigrators want to use their accrued points to buy powers, perks or equipment!
It might be more accurate to call this a System feature, rather than a System type. It's usually combined with other varieties.
Plot Pushing System:
This is the SVSSS variety of System. It wants you to play a character roll or do a plot related thing (or several plot related things) and will gladly harass, cajole, or threaten you into doing so!
They don’t always have specific character roles or plot scenarios in mind, and might just be there to demand transmigrator participation generally. Just sitting around doing nothing would be boring for the readers, so they compel their users to act.
These are by far the snarkiest and most personality filled System types I’ve come across. A lot of the time the System itself is essentially the main antagonist.
I fully believe
that the System in Scum Villain has a bunch of features that Shen Yuan NEVER found out about because
1. He didn't ask 2. The System is a purposefully obtuse little shit
He could have been taking screenshots of White Lotus Binghe! He could have been streaming from his eyeballs straight to Shang Qinghua! There's even a pause button that would have really come in handy to give him time to think certain things through - but of course the System wouldn't tell him about it, because User 02 never asked.

I find immense amusement in the thought of Shang Qinghua and his System having both a pretty antagonistic and somehow also apathetic relationship with each other. Like they WILL get snippy with each other, and his System will forever be peeved that his only motivation to do something with the story comes from MBJ, but they can go bouts of times just ignoring each other too. I think they system likes to drop missions like “Survive” or “Escape” on SQH with little to no warning and while he is already about to be in the middle of things lmao
This next headcannon has zero basis other than I think he’s shameless enough to do it, but shirtless sleeper sqh. Imagine.
Bonus doodle:
Thinking about after SVSSS ends all the parts of Bingzu just watching happy ending and all the little pieces of Bingzu's heart all wanting that so much, and just them getting it.
Each part of Bingzu reincarnating as Binghe in another world and in everyone a version of Shen Yuan transmigrated a different character/NPC.
SQQ looking into multiverse through artifact and 'Huh what the fuck Binghe falls in love with everyone..' only no he falls in love with Shen Yuan no matter what form he is in.
Just every part of Bingzu getting to fall in love with a Shen Yuan.
Only when 1 part is left and no one else can act as the system and instead and falls into a version of modern world and still meets and falls in love with Shen Yuan.
Just every part of them getting a happy ending.
