Description: After Sherlock’s death, John was an empty shell. He felt like he was simply existing. Until the day, a few months after Sherlock’s death, that Mycroft asks something of John that John had never expected. Faced with caring for the teenaged son John didn’t know Sherlock even had, John is tested beyond his wildest dreams as he is forced to learn to be a parent. Just when everything seems well and John and the boy he considers his own child have settled into a happy life, everything is turned upside down by the arrival of someone John never expected to ever see again.
Review: This screams 2012 with the “what if Sherlock had a child no one knew about?” trope but I still enjoyed it. I liked how the situation was giving John time to come to love Sherlock’s son and when Sherlock comes back from the dead, John didn’t immediately accept him back.

Though the other one could just as easily be a sister ... but these images are working really well for me right now.
Sherlock Headcannon
The Third Holmes, Sherrinford Holmes, is a few years younger than Sherlock and has always looked up to him. A few years after A Scandal in Belgravia, Sherrinford and Irene got married. They have a son named Hamish.

Hey everybody -- I rewatched TSoT today, and I was struck by this comment from Sherlock:
"It is a fact, I believe, that brides tend to favor exceptionally plain bridesmaids for their big day. There is a certain analogy there, I feel. And contrast is, after all, God's own plan to enhance the beauty of his creation. Or it would be if God were not a ludicrous fantasy designed to provide a career opportunity for the family idiot."
So this, paired with the revelation from Mycroft about a possible third Holmes sibling made me wonder if the third sibling might be the family idiot that Sherlock alludes to. According to wikipedia:
"Sherrinford Holmes is a hypothetical elder brother of Sherlock Holmes and Mycroft Holmes...
He was first proposed by William S. Baring-Gould who wrote in his biography "Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street" that Sherrinford was the eldest brother of Sherlock Holmes."
So my theory? I don't know... Sherrinfold (or whoever the sibling is) devotes his life to religious service and somehow gets himself into a lot of trouble. Mycroft has the opportunity to save him, but doesn't for the good of the country.

Sherlock Theory: Where the third Holmes brother went a bit mad...
And now is a kinda king of London's homeless population. Living on the streets, makes sure his people are warm and dry and fed even if they are homeless. Takes care of them as he can. This is why Sherlock really uses the homeless network. It's because his other brother is always wanting to help him and this is the best way for Sherlock to show his appreciation. To show he really needs his other brother around, even if he is a bit mad.....
And the two older Holmes brothers always are looking out for Sherlock. Where Mycroft's cameras don't reach, No. 3's people can. How else does Mycroft always know to swoop in? He's in contact with No. 3. They watch out for Sherlock, because they are concerned for him, that he might be like No. 3....
Know what's HARD?
To write 'numbness'. Like, in the fic I'm writing, there has been ALL OF THE ANGST and SO MANY EMOTIONS both good and bad. However, I'm entirely unhappy with the BIG MOMENT I just wrote because in it, my character is in a state of shock. He comprehends fear, anxiety, and sadness, but only lightly because he's in SHOCK and it's all muted. It's numbness. The shock is numbing his fear and hurt. It's SO HARD to convey that feeling textually. I mean, I can usually convey emotions pretty well, that's what I'm best at doing, but THIS is difficult.
I'm so worried it's going to make the GIANT THING THAT HAPPENS (cant talk about it cause NOBODY knows the REAL climax, I've only told friends about the false climax) and it's EATING AT ME because this fic is one of those 'once in a blue moon' AMAZING stories like The Third Holmes was. I feel like this is my 'Fic of the Year' sort of (I think, wasn't Third Holmes posted in December? If that was 2013 I MAY not manage for this to be my Fic of the Year) and I DON'T WANT TO FUCK IT UP!
I HATE when I second guess my writing. It EATS at me. Anybody else get that?
