Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day (Aug 21)

I try to comment on every fanfic I fall in love with, but there are just so many talented authors in the Orphan Black fandom that it’s not always possible to leave comments for you all (I wish I had the time). So for all the authors I’ve left comments for, the ones I haven’t (But totally meant to), and all the ones whose work I haven’t read yet, thank you. Thank you for your words, for the hours you spent pouring into them, for your creativity and your courage to share. You write without knowing whether anyone will like or even read your work and you do so willingly, hoping for nothing in return but a like/kudos and hopefully some words of encouragement. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment, all the smiles, laughter and heartbreak your words have brought me, I have loved each and every moment. I intended to make a list of some of my favourite fanfics but since this post became unexpectedly long I’ll make do with a short (Totally reliant on whose tumblr names I remember) list of some of my favourite fanfic authors who make reading their work such a pleasure. Thank you @jaybear1701, @haughtbreaker, @thecirclesquare, @elizaskylers, @cophinaphile, @mveloc, @soundreason-truereligion, @morningmightcomebyaccident, @novelconcepts, @sharkodactyl, @ladycanuck, @trylonandperisphere and all the other authors I love whose names I don’t know on tumblr. For fanfic readers who don’t write, likes/kudos are cool, but comments are better. As someone who used to write fanfic and no longer does I know how much comments, likes and favourites mean to an author. Likes make a author feel warm and loved when they get one, but comments are like gold. When you have writers block or you feel like no one is reading your work, comments really do go a long way to helping you get those words out. Hell, they’re even great if you’re having a bad day and need a pick me up. So when you’re feeling too lazy to comment just think, if every other person reading that story felt the same way, and that author thought no one liked their work and lost motivation, how sad would you be to never see that story completed? You don’t have to write an essay (But the author will love it if you do) and I’m not saying you have to comment on every story you read (I’d never have the time), but try, because every comment you’re able to leave is so, so important to an author. Don’t ever think that they’re not. Leaving a comment is never a waste of time.
