Thursday, March 9, 2023 Good morning, lovely folx! Today we consider Introspection, Wisdom, Destiny Tarot of the Day: The Hanged Man

This card usually appears when you feel like you need to take action but can’t see which path to take; you are at a crossroads. The options at hand are likely to be opposites to each other; black or white, up or down, left or right, etc. This is why you are feeling stuck or hung up. The time has come for you to search deeply within yourself, and decide how you want your journey to continue.

Sometimes, we need to accept a situation as it is; submit to destiny, and the Hanged Man can be a sign that this is what’s needed now. Step back and consider ways that you might let go of attempts to control people or situations in your life, or to release an assumption or wish that you are holding tightly. Know that any sacrifice that you make will open your life to receiving energy even more positive and beneficial.

💚 At work, you may be feeling frustrated by a lack of change or movement. Assess whether there is any action you can take to affect change. If there is, act.  If not, step back and don’t take the lack of change, personally. If you can’t find peace, then this is a good time to look elsewhere.

💙 Single or not, this is a good time to let go of things you can’t control. An unattainable love, an unrealistic view, a need to be ‘right’, etc. Holding onto things like this can stop growth and deepen the feeling of being in limbo. Let them go.

! TW MATURE / SPOILERS DE !

So I think I finally got it. Based on my last post and the feedback I got, I finally drew Lely and how I think he would have looked when he was alive.

Extra tidbits because why not: 

- I used the palette from Raul Kortenaer's Mercenary avatar, as they were brothers so it would only be fitting.  -  It was described he had a facial injury around his jaw that had shredded his jaw and made him look older than he is; it was also described he had a lot of smaller injuries. I am not sure if I was able to capture all of them. Also male-pattern baldness as he was 42! - I draw with keyboard and mouse so drawing pressure-sensitive areas (fancy beards, hair) not really possible. Standard brushes on Photoshop, unsure which.  - The border is indeed trying to mimic the picture border in-game. - The draft picture with the progess how he evolved over the past few days.

Now I can finally rest sort of knowing how The Hanged Man would looked while he was alive.

I’ve been reading the Hanged God by Shani Oatesand have come across some interesting things especially in relation to altered states of consciousness, not only with plant allies (though there is mention of entheogenic herbs being put on sauna coals so the psychoactive steam could be inhaled). The book essentially explores the various means in which Odin acquired his powers and how those are symbolic for various rites of passage and altered states of consciousness which led to the new knowledge. It also looks at suspension, self-restraint and other methods of inducing altered states through physical discomfort or endurance. The hanged god, sacrificing oneself to oneself to gain new knowledge or power, is a common theme is shamanic traditions around the world. Shamanic death, a kind of self sacrifice takes many forms and reaches back to humanity’s first and oldest spiritual beliefs.
