5 & 9
5. best song of the year.
I’m totally, utterly unaware of music. I don’t listen to the radio and I listen to podcasts in the background of my day instead of music. Literally -- I listen to documentaries and news podcasts all day I’m not necessarily paying attention or processing, they’re just there as background noise. It takes a lot for a song to break through in a way that makes me aware of it. I tend to just listen to the stuff that appealed to me I was in high school and middle school with the occasional song that has hit me at some point in the 15+ years since I was hearing a lot of music at school dances.
Having established that I have 0 idea what was actually released this year, I did (re?)discover Fountains of Wayne’s “Bright Future in Sales” this year and was really vibing with it. So.
9. best television series
I’ve also really been rationing how much TV I watch because I’m supposed to be doing coursework (spoiler: I managed not to watch TV or do coursework, but that’s neither here nor there). That said, I did finally get around to watching Schitt’s Creek after telling myself I’d catch up with it for the past 2-3 years (a lot of times I finally find myself motivated to watch something once it’s finished), and while I found the final season to be really middle of the road as a whole and the finale left me lowkey disappointed, I really adored the series as a whole, especially seasons 3-5, and I’m really enjoying some of the stuff fandom does with the characters.
