banana: favorite horror movies?

Oh, that’s an interesting question actually. I was a huge horror fan in my teens through to my mid 20s. At which point... I slowly lost interest in horror. It’s hard to say why.

List time! My top 5 Favourite Horror FIlms:

Dawn of the Dead (1978) - The best damn zombie movie ever. George A. Romero changed everything with this film. Sure, he started with Night of the Living Dead but Dawn of the Dead really solidified a lot of the tropes zombie fiction is known for (friendly reminder that Robert Kirkman’s inspiration for The Walking Dead was his disappointment that Dawn of the Dead ends... he wanted to do what Romero did but let the story continue to playout.)

Ginger Snaps (2000) - The best werewolf movie ever. Yeah, the title is kinda cheesy. But if you were looking for a feminist werewolf movie...

Scream 2 (1997) - I was a huge fan of the Scream films as a teenager. Scream 2 remains my favourite of the 3 original films. This one is more nostalgia driven than anything else.

Evil Dead II (1987) - Evil Dead II is a campy wonder. More funny than Evil Dead but not quite as leaning hard into the comedy like Army of Darkness (I love Army of Darkness but it’s not really a horror movie.) This film is iconic. Bruce Campbell at his best (imo.)

An American Werewolf in London (1980) - This film really straddles these lines between being funny, sexy and sad, never really being too much of any one of the three.
