erratic-hippie's Questions:
1. Feminism. What are your views on it?
Important, utterly necessary for every person regardless of gender, and something I am proud to learn about, fight for, and educate others on. It gives me a little happy glow every time I see the "oh god, she's going on another feminist rant" expression on someone's face.
2. Pet Peeves. Do you have any?
People who listen to things very loudly with no thought or care to those around them.
3. If one of your fandoms came to life and incorporated itself into the world (government/laws/society), which one would you want to do so?
Harry Potter I think. I think achieving equality would be, well, easier. If there's anything I think should have been explored more in the books is the fact that, since magic began, men and women had equal power to fuck up your day, and that had to have affected gender roles. Not to mention racial equality, as again, it'd be very clear that skin color and ability to do magic had no correlation. And who doesn't want a magic wand and a Hogwarts letter?
I'd either go into politics, or aim for becoming the History of Magic professor at the nearest magic school.
4. When everything falls apart, what/who is the first thing you turn to?
Fictional worlds, fandoms, the internet, etc. I usually need space to get away before I need people to vent to/comfort me.
5. You’re having an argument with a good friend. Do you let it go to soothe tensions, or do you keep arguing/debating? Why?
If I'm getting to the point of not being able to be calm, I'll take a break and breathe until I can. (I have this obnoxious tendency to cry when I get angry which undermines what I'm trying to say and pisses me off more which makes me cry more and ugh, vicious cycle) Also, depends on the argument, and how important it is. Some things I'll let go because it's not as important as my friendship is, others I won't.
6. Do you wish you were born in a different city/state/country? If so, where and why?
Yes, a lot of the time, as the United States pisses me off so much a good majority of the time. And being born in say, one of the Nordic states, would have been amazing. But I am who I am because of where I was born and who I was born to and everything that came after and I like that person, so, also no.
7. What’s one language you wish you could learn instantaneously?
Spanish. I think every child in California (and Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona too for that matter) should be required to learn Spanish and English in school. California was originally bilingual and all government documents had to be printed in both languages since English speakers were not the first ones to form government there. But of course, later racism and colonialism changed that to the now English only culture in which racist pricks bitch about people coming to "their" country and not speaking the language.
8. Name three things about yourself that you like and are proud of.
I care, a lot, about people and about the potential of the human race.
I am ambitious and tend to dream too big and I feel no shame for that.
I love writing and I have spent twenty years doing it and I am still learning and getting better every day, but I think I'm pretty good at it these days.
9. Any aspirations for the new year?
Apply for and get an awesome, paid, summer internship.
Actually achieve my secret start-up plans with my friend Ali.
Get good grades and also manage to keep up with all my other jobs and responsibilities.
Adopt and end up addicted to, like, ten new fandoms, just because.
Finish Dragon Age Origins.
Okay, no more goals, I am done now.
10. Name three things that you’re passionate about.
Social Justice, writing, anthropology.
11. Why is your favorite character/actor(ess) your favorite and why?
OOoh, that's like, impossible. I have so many, in both categories, so I'll just go with my most recent favorite character.
Lagertha, the main female lead on Vikings, is a fucking goddess and I love her. She is a shieldmaiden and a mother and a wife and so fucking smart I can't stand it and just, ugh. They need to rename the show Lagertha and have her be like, Sif's favorite human, and just show her ruling her clan so well, and raising her kids, and kicking everyone's asses who needs it, and *sigh* I love her.
