The Marvels (2023) - Teaser Trailer
WIP Wednesday
A big chunk of Chosen One AU today, because I really like this whole bit:
A big board hangs above the desk, listing patient names, and Quin searches for one in particular.
Name: Kenobi, Obi-Wan
Age: 15
Rank: Junior padawan
Master: Jinn, Qui-Gon (Knight)
Condition: Fair
Reason for Admit: Cardiac arrest + Force exhaustion + Concussion
Fair? What does that mean?
“It means his vitals are stable, that the healers expect a positive outcome, but because he was in cardiac arrest, he’ll need the type of monitoring that this unit provides,” his master says in his ear. “He’ll be all right.”
A healer Quin knows, Master Zendar, from Mon Cala like Bant, glances up from the desk with a smile. He’s treated Obi-Wan before.
“Padawan Vos, I expect I know why you’re here,” he says with a wink. “Padawan Kenobi is in room four. You may go in if you like.”
Quin speed walks to that room with his master close behind, and, upon entering, finds himself wrapped up in the embrace of one Qui-Gon Jinn. Quin can’t say that he isn’t pleased to be catching up to Master Qui-Gon in height. He’s six one now, and his primary care healer thinks he’ll grow another three inches.
“Are you well?” Master Qui-Gon asks as he pulls back, brown hair swinging over his shoulders, and he studies Quin with that gentle-but-piercing gaze. He usually smells slightly of aloe sap, but today it’s fresh laundry.
“I’m okay,” Quin answers, eyes darting to the sleeping Obi-Wan. “I thought he woke up?”
“He’s just dozing. You may take my chair. I’m sure your master will take me to get a tea.”
“I will indeed.”
Master Tholme, stepping over to the bed, adjusts Obi-Wan's blankets, squeezes Quin’s shoulder, and takes Qui-Gon out with him. For his part, Qui-Gon hesitates in the doorway before visibly willing himself away.
Quin can guess what he’s feeling right now.
Instead of sitting in the chair, Quin hoists himself up into the bed, stretching out alongside Obi-Wan, who keeps himself curled and tight against one side. He used to do that when they were little—not take up all the space in his own bed. Mussed copper hair spills across rose-pink sheets, and Quin almost, almost touches it. The nasal cannula slipped off one ear while Obi-Wan slept, and Quin fixes it for him. He smooths a wrinkle in the Bacta bandage on Obi-Wan's forehead.
When Quin looks at best friend, he doesn’t see the other half of himself, but a whole being whose heart, in this huge kriffing galaxy, beats in time with his. It’s sappy, but he doesn’t care. It’s true. What has Obi-Wan ever been but home to a boy who used to think he would never have one again? In the dark of Quin’s own fear of himself, Obi-Wan's silver stars light his way. When Obi-Wan gets worn out by a world that wants too much from him, Quin has always tried to be like the hearthfire he used to sit by on Kiffu.
Warm. Safe. Dependable when you need it most.
Obi-Wan's eyes open, and he blinks like he isn’t sure Quin is there.
“Quin?”
“Not a hallucination,” Quin quips. “I’d look better than this if I was.”

“My love, there’s only you in my life.” Ivy and Misuin
Ivy was pacing her little cottage, again. The sun had set and Misuin still wasn't back. This wouldn't have been a concern, but he had assured her he would be home by the afternoon. It was now late in the evening, and dinner was cold on the table. She hated how much she worried, but she remembered her mamae's tales. Crow work was deadly. One wrong step and he could be caught, killed, or worse.
The door swung open and her stupid Crow stood proudly in her doorway.
"My sweet, beautiful Ivy!" he grinned. "I have missed you!"
Her gaze swept his body, checking for injury and she found none. Then what took him so long?
She approached him carefully and his smile faltered.
"My love?" he asked, softer. "What is the matter?"
Ivy studied his outfit for a moment before meeting his eyes.
"Is there someone else?"
She might as well have stabbed him for how hurt he looked, guilt pricked at her heart. But she had to know.
"My love, there's only you in my life," he said softly, pulling her into his arms. "You are the only one I want, I swear it on my life."
"Then what took you so long?" she murmured, nuzzling into his neck.
"I simply stopped to get you something," he chuckled. "Though, perhaps you don't want it? If you think so little of me."
She pulled back to pout. "I do want it! I'm sorry."
He kissed her forehead, handing her the package.
"I know, mi vida, I am teasing."
Ivy unwrapped the gift eagerly, gasping softly. Sitting in a gorgeous leather sheath was a sharp, obsidian knife.
"Misuin!"
"I know, I know," he grinned as she studied the knife. "I have a good eye."
"It's gorgeous! This is exactly what I need!" she replied.
"You're welcome my love," he chuckled. She set the knife aside and kissed him deeply, relaxing in his arms.
💡- she suddenly jumps to the surface picking them up over her head
