Coming right from the tag game, I *need* a snippet (if you want obv) from "Letters from beyond the grave" it just sounds sick and I love some sskk angst
I think I came up with this concept three years ago. We didn’t know how the doa arc was going to end at the time, but this fic takes place in a world where the vampires simply didn’t survive the end of the doa. Of course, this includes Akutagawa, at Atsushi feels directly responsible for his death
Some fifteen years later, the world has moved on, but Atsushi hasn’t. A solo mission puts him in contact with an elderly man who takes a huge liking to Atsushi. He reveals that his ability allows him to send letters back in time, but at a price that must be paid by the recipient. The letter is imbued with a wish, a dream, a condition, and the recipient cannot live normally until it’s fulfilled
“He knew that it was a stupid idea, that casualties would exist in every universe. The odds of a singularity would be high and the success rate would be low. But a part of him, an infinitely small part of him that ignored all fears and anxieties, told him that he deserved happiness, in this universe or in the next.”
Atsushi asks the man to send a letter back for him, and in turn subjects a past version of himself to an agonizing time loop of the day he and Akutagawa fought Fukuchi. Atsushi has to watch Akutagawa get struck down on the daily, sacrificing himself over and over again, until he can finally find a way to keep them both alive
“Atsushi,
You probably won’t believe this, but I promise that you can’t afford to have any doubt. You have the chance to change the course of your reality and save the people you care about. I wasn’t so lucky….”
I never actually figured out how Atsushi and Akutagawa were going to survive Fukuchi on the boat, especially since we knew nothing about the divine being or fourth-dimensional space at the time, but I’m sure I could find a way to finish this up with the context we know now >:)
