One of my daily rituals is to choose a card from one of my decks. I have four and I’m so lucky to say that they were all gifts. I have never sought out my own as I feel the ones that have been gifted to me always arrive right on time and from those who know me best. I am receiving messages from every direction that I need to protect my heart and continue to heal and be open to new opportunities. Right in line with the new year. Me with #nofilter after swimming with sting rays in the Grand Cayman Islands! 🌊🌊🌊 No need for a cute picture of me in the ocean kissing a stingray and staying above the water so I didn’t mess up my hair or makeup. Because I knew I wanted to be below the water with my goggles watching these big beautiful souls fly through the water instead. I left my phone on the boat so I could stay fully present and snapped this post-glow selfie instead. I’m on an airplane home waiting to take off now, coming back to reality after spending five wonderful days off the radar with my mom on a Carnival Cruise 🌊🌈🌴🌞 Since I was young I was taught to seek out travel and experiences over material possessions and that lesson has been one of my greatest gifts. I am so grateful to already have had the travel experiences I’ve had. Thank you to my hard working mother who was a nurse for 42 years and knew she deserved to put her feet in the sand in the dead of a Wisconsin winter. Somehow she always found a way to bring me with her. Cheers to putting the phone down and being present with my mom. My heart is full. The freckles on my nose have returned. FREE DRAW this Saturday at Yours Truly from 3-5 PM ❤️🌿 Remember in elementary, middle, and high school art class when the teacher would announce free draw? The room would go wild and the classroom would roar?  Well, it’s here. For you. As an adult. This Saturday at Yours Truly from 3-5pm. Drop-in  anytime to this free draw workshop with yourself or a friend and bring your own materials or nothing at all. Stay for 15 minutes or the whole two hours, its 100% up to you. The Self Care Studio will have a variety of materials to choose from if you don’t have your own and a selection of drawing and journaling prompts to help you not *overthink* the process if you get stuck. Participate in the studio's ongoing project, The Self Love Trading Cards Club, if you wish, or choose from a selection of coloring sheets if a total free draw isn’t your thing and you want to draw between some lines. I have been deep in a sea of podcasts lately and keep running into themes and stories of personal triumphs after long histories of people hitting road block after road block. Everyone has a story and a lot of the time those stories are heavy with trials and tribulations before they reach the place of triumph. It’s hard to see in the moment, but really all those dead ends we run into are doorways and are waking us up each time we hit our head against that brick wall in our path. We might not get it the 1st, 2nd, 4th, or 20th time...but we will get it eventually. And all our hard work will catapult us into a new path that is full of ease and many doors that aren’t even hard to open. I really believe that. Do you? What would it feel like if someone asked you what you needed right now? What would it feel like if you stopped and asked yourself. ✨💕 Not “what do you want..” but what do you NEED. What will help you feel better in the short term? Push you in the long term? What can someone do to help you shed skins that are no longer serving you? What can you do to take care of yourself? What would it feel like to write down a list of all the things you know you need and pin it up in a place you’ll see daily? Remind yourself that you are worthy of receiving the things you need whether it be setting boundaries, getting more sunshine, drinking more water in a day, telling your support network you need them to do more check-ins, an earlier bedtime, more goals, less expectations - the list goes on and can be anything you NEED. 🙏🏼💙✨ We as a society are so afraid to ask for what we need. What if the fix was as simple as asking one another to answer this question? We can’t expect people to read our minds, and sometimes folks can’t even interpret body language. But we can be radical enough to put this question on the table. To ask ourselves and others. At home. At school. Who are you? Where do you live? What is your work all about? All questions that I haven’t answered clearly in a very long time or maybe ever! I post a lot of stuff, and sometimes my hands are in the photos, but I never am and I thought maybe it would be a good idea if I properly introduced myself so you could see who is behind the photos and illustrations and messages about self care and mental health on this page 💕🙋🏼‍♀️I’m Jenna. This photo is of me from me last February in front of a welcome home sign that my amazing roommate of six+ years made for me when I was returning home from an international residency. It stayed up and took on a whole new meaning when it welcomed me home after being hospitalized for my mental health shortly after that. I am an artist living and working in Milwaukee, WI. I am lucky enough to host self-care hands on sensory workshops around the city and I just began my residency at @lyndensculpturegarden (stay tuned!) My brilliant beautiful girlfriend took this photo of me 🌈🦄 we like to do impulsive photo shoots and this is one of my favorite photos she has ever taken of me ✨ I have several different Bipolar diagnoses ranging from Cyclothymia to Bipolar I. So I am somewhere on that spectrum, no one has been able to really pin it down. It’s been a ride 🌬🌬🌬I once had a psychiatrist try to see if I was manic by asking me if I ever “had the urge to write a book or a movie script” to which I replied, “I already did.” For real 😭 I self published “I Kept Things I Did Not Need” in July of 2017. Definitely have SAD and often wonder why I live in a place without a beach and sun and ocean and water. 🌊🌞I love my family and friends and prefer deep relationships. I want to know what’s up in your world. I work hard to hold space for the people in my life.
