What if they were bees.
What if Ingo and Emmet, renowned subway bosses, were just bees.
What if they lived in anville town in a hive made in one of the abandoned rail houses and they were b-
THEY'RE BEES. They are LITTLE GUYS. I Don't Know What To Tell You!! They Are Small And They Like Honey!! And also have to deal with an immense amount of tragedy BUT THEY'RE BEES! Look at their little antennae,, yes they are forced through the most cosmically unlikely series of tragic accidents but it's fine. They're god's favorites. Hisuian pokemon are those blessed by Arceus? Awesome. Hisuian Combee. The first one ever. Because this tiny hexagon shaped bug has won the favor of The Almighty Sinnoh Itself. What more could you possibly want.

Got any fun ideas about possible new mutants; Thoughts on the Terras and how they are as a society?
I honestly have some trouble with the Terras--they mostly just make me super sad haha. I mean....they’re a dying people who live on radioactive land and most if not all of them are willing to throw in with their leader on suicidal missions to destroy both their enemy and themselves?? I have trouble with fun TV “mutants” because the reality of stuff like that is so grim and horrifying to me. TuT Which is part of the reason I don’t tend to lean on the Terras as a story element much. So I don’t have many thoughts, but I can at least ramble about them a little!
(((Also I feel like there were better ways to make them feel like semi-feral mushroom people than like...body paint, feathers in their hair--I’m not saying they were specifically designed to weirdly pull on tropes for Native Americans b/c I don’t know--but I am definitely saying somebody should have worked harder to make sure they DIDN’T. QuQ)))
If I was going into them more as a society and I had freedom to fiddle around...hm. I’d probably explore more of the way their society started? They were like, an eco-friendly sustainable commune, was the impression I got, and they haven’t had all that much time to deviate from that; cartoon ladies don’t age until they metamorphose into grandmas, but Kaia calls one of the Burners “son” at one point, and considering she was a young woman when Kane started dumping toxic waste, and there’s been time for giant mushroom forests and mutant deer and also for this community of gardener hippies to turn into whooping mushroom-jumping guerrilla eco-terrorists, I’m guessing she’s.......what, like, probably forty or early fifties by now??
There’s been a pretty rapid cultural shift is all I’m saying. It must have swept some people along more than others, and left a chunk of their society behind! There are still scientists around! In lab coats! THEY wear clothes! Even assuming nobody can get out to buy new clothes, and they’ve just been handing down jeans for like thirty years, the contrast between “I’m wearing jeans and a gross shredded-up T-shirt” and “I’m wearing a literal leaf skirt” in the same culture is FUCKING WILD. Do those people judge each other??? Is there a cultural divide about maintaining civilization vs. adapting to the new environment??
SerotoninShift’s Terras in “Rats In The Walls” (mind the warnings!) are actually one of my favorite versions--they’ve got a leadership structure that isn’t just “Kaia tells people to go do murder and everybody’s 100% down” and also a surprisingly banal series of meetings and rules from a crumbly old rule book, and community conflict over Kaia’s plans, and it serves nicely as a reminder that as much as these guys spend the show cooking up wild drugs and backflipping around not wearing much clothing, they started out with a similar society to the rest of Motorcity, like, twenty or thirty years ago.
..........I feel like there are probably a lot of Terra expats out in Motorcity proper, actually. There must certainly have been people who left when shit started to go bad. Are they just out there assuming that the rest of their old community is dead? Still gardening? Trying to start a new Terra community??? oh damn that would be super interesting actually. For that matter, I’m surprised that Jacob wasn’t familiar with these guys, since the original-flavor Terras seem pretty solidly up his alley, and he’s old enough they would’ve definitely been around at the same time.
...............................There’s a lot of missed potential in having Jacob know Kaia from before, and it would’ve created a lot of drama--that they couldn’t have easily explored in their limited programming space and that would’ve been a lot more character-focused than their zippy zoomy car cartoon vibe was, to be fair. But like....damn that could’ve been intense. And given the Terras a lot more stake in the main character group, so they weren’t just an occasional antagonist for an isolated episode or two. Hmm.
