Thinking about it, if they told the truth and had Harry's love life narritive be that he has been madly in love with a boy similar age to him that's also his band mate having a long term relationship since xfactor, doesn't sound anywhere near as pleasing to the general public or media does it

It's unfortunate but honestly that's the reason why, there would be no want or desire by any fans to be with him then, meaning the following would lessen

Think of all the headlines that have been created because of this, all the new girlfriends, all the breakups, different nationalities, age difference, number count, without this the media would have almost nothing to report about him other than his fashion or actual talent, which unfortunately not many are interested about.

At this point I don't actually think their publicists care that we think/know they're in a relationship because it's so secretive it creates a hype of the fact that we feel like we know what we are not meant to know

But then of course their relationship is kept a secret to keep the general public interested and feel like their is "an opportunity"
