thoughts on the Morphlings?
I haven't dived into them as much as some other writers but I freaking love them as a premise (we stan depressing topics) and did incorporate them in both when I said I'll never let you go (I meant it) and my Cashmere-verse fic (both the anonymous-ed old one and the unpublished WIP).
In my HC/Lore, the female morphling is Trinks Hermes, who won in 60. She was abused (largely sexually) by her father until the day her mother finally found out (it's explained that they were basically never in the home together so she really didn't know until it was too late) and killed him. We love a protective mama. Bc of this, tho, Trinks has to be adopted out to her grandparents (on her mom's side, obviously). It's the reason that she makes a promise to herself that if she's ever Reaped (which she is) she has to win (and she does); bc she refuses to have lived through both her father's abuse and the loss of her mother (now a confirmed avox in the Capitol being subjected to unimaginable horrors) for 'nothing.' (in the above-linked 'when I said I'll never let you go' she ends up partnered with Gloss and, honestly, they're fucking adorable if I may just say)
The male morphling is Hudson Poplars who won in 68. I haven't given him a concrete backstory but he ends up relatively close to Cashmere post-Games bc of his selfless choice to ally with her 12y/o tributes (long story) when he could've just killed them with ease. Aside from that, he goes way harder into the drugs than Trinks and I've canonically decided he wasn't in on the Rebel plot but haven't actually decided why. (probably will end with something similar to Cashmere/Gloss wherein he just couldn't risk putting his family in danger) (but he still gets roped into the rebel plot post-Quell, don't worry) (unless I kill him, I haven't decided, I'm sorry!)
