Am I the only one who, for some reason, can't not constantly think about the memorials Katniss references in the epilogue?

"The arenas have been completely destroyed, the memorials built."

Is there a memorial for all the children who were murdered in the hunger games? All 1,725 of them? Did someone manage to dig up the names of all the past tributes? Can Haymitch go to the capitol and run his fingers over the L in Louella's name? Can Katniss look at Rue's name, engraved in something permanent?

Is there a memorial for all the rebel soldiers who died while fighting the capitol? Does Finnick's name reside right next to Prim's on a big glossy slab of marble or granite?

Haymitch finding it impossible to ditch Lou Lou despite knowing that he should. She latches onto him and he just becomes her protector until the end where she dies in his arms.

Katniss finding it impossible to ditch Rue despite knowing that she should. She also latches onto Katniss who becomes her protector until the end where she dies in her arms.

They both see their little siblings in the young girls by their side. They both know that their deaths are inevitable. They both die with injuries to their chests. Both Katniss and Haymitch delay the hovercraft from taking them.

Both girls are from district 11.

Like yeah he's probably groaning, but not for the reason you think, Katniss.

I'm sure Rue reminds him of Ampert and his doves and LouLou and he is simply Not Ready to go through that again, to watch Katniss, his best friend's daughter who reminds him so much of his sweetheart and of himself, go through the loss of an ally who needs her.

Haymitch isn't heartless Katniss—he would have done the same. He's simply been through some stuff he does not wish to relive, and he can tell you're about to go down the same path to heartbreak

RUE! Rue and Katniss, or Rue and Prim! Maybe Rue and Lucy Gray, and you could play with the whole "songbirds" or "songbirds and snakes" thing? Maybe Rue and Ampert? Hope this helped, lol. I'm really feeling Rue right now.

Once again, the connection that Haymitch and Katniss share comes from love, from compassion, and from the fierce will to make the deaths of those they loved count. They both take love—and the loss of it—as a driving force to oppose the Capitol, because in Panem, to own your grief and let it guide you toward the right thing is rebellion. It is rebellion to acknowledge the lives that were so violently taken and to honor them by holding the Capitol accountable, by making them feel shame, by showing them that every drop of blood they spill matters.

Haymitch and Katniss are emotionally driven rebels with so much to lose, and yet they keep choosing to love, choosing to offer their lives over and over again. Katniss is really himjust luckier.

I knew Ampert’s death was going to devastate me as soon as I noted that Haymitch saw Sid in him the same way Katniss saw Prim in Rue.

Mockingjays mimic, taking a simple song sung by someone else and turning it into a beautiful melody that reverberates the message of its original singer.

Katniss was the Mockingjay because her song, her message, her resistance, was sung by many before her; Lucy Gray, Haymitch, Lenore Dove, Tigris, Cinna.

Katniss just carried on the tune.
