I keep seeing bits of interviews and bts clips and this one phrase/reference kept confusing me, so maybe some other westerners might want to know also:
Thick face:
The meaning is not quite the same between english and chinese - generally you wouldn't see english-speakers calling a celebrity 'thick-skinned' because it's just not something we really say.
Maybe you might say admiringly of someone who deals with harassment or derogatory comments in a calm or non-reactive way, just seeming to ignoring them: "Oh you have such a thick skin, you don't let them bother you". Or you might tell someone: "You have to grow a thicker skin! You can't let them see it upsets you!"
I think this is different from the chinese usage, where someone might say: "Oh he has such a thick face, he'll say anything for attention!" or something along those lines. Not always flattering: "She has such a thick face, she told me I shouldn't spend so much on getting my hair done, and then asked to borrow money for lunch!"
Please do correct me if I am getting this wrong, I just think small things like this are fascinating.
