International Trails Day.

毎年6月第1土曜は国際トレイルの日、らしい。

山道(トレイル)は自然を愉しむ手段やフィールドとして比較的身近なもののひとつだけど、単に自然任せに放置していると荒れて持続できず、失われてしまうものでもある。

その恩恵に感謝しながら、実際に利用している一人ひとりがその持続のために何かしらアクション(行動)を起こすことが大切だと、皆で改めて再認識できる日になると良いね。

Pineapple season! Love how these fruit cups are constantly changing. Over 3 dozen new trees planted just these past couple of days including Malay Apple, water apple, black sapote, canistel, star apple, star fruit, sausage tree, cola nut, abiu, nan doc mai mangos, rambutan, durian, date palm, and lots of guava. Have you ever experienced the feeling of abundance at your doorstep? No? What’s stopping you? There was a time, not so long ago, where people supported themselves by eating what grew in their own regions and no more. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, an intense population occurred, followed by technological advancements that allowed for food to be transported from warm places thousands of miles away to supply hungry people during the winter. Majority of our current problems come from the the way people in cities and industrialized regions live. Over harvesting resources from the land, through mining, farming, forestry, and oil fields to produce consumable resources that are then mindlessly discarded. In a failed effort to fix these problems, society has turned to technology to try to fix symptoms rather than going to the root cause of our issues. Inefficient and wasteful use of energy. Today’s small harvest was enough to share with 9 additional households and still have more than enough. In a matter of two days, I’ll be harvesting just as much, if not double this quantity from literally a small handful (5) of our trees.
