author's note: While I am working on getting to a point w/ thiom (the hollows in our minds) where I can officially reintroduce it, I've decided I'm ready to start posting about the characters. Teehee :)
This post is something of an introduction to Kalia, one of the main POV characters. She was the first character I ever considered to be my pride and joy, so you can probably imagine she means A LOT to me haha.

Meet Kalia.
Kalia, she/her. 26 years old. Human.
Raised in Styga, living in Iron Crown.
... Until she wakes up in Welvor with a head injury.
Doesn’t know how she got here, but she’s pretty sure her mother’s ghost is in her head.
Name pronounced kay-lee-uh.
Appearance.
Kalia stands at about 4ft and 10in tall, with sickly-pale white skin. Her straight and somewhat unkempt hair reaches her shoulder blades; a natural blonde, she keeps it dyed a pale, icy blue. She is very small in proportion, with a bony look and a fragility about her. Her shoulders are thin, about the same width as her hips and waist.
She has very dark eyes, often underlined with shadows, and dusky blonde brows. Her face is slim and oval in shape, with an upturned nose and a notable lack of expression. Mouth is dry and chapped, has a thin upper lip and a heavy lower lip. Does not smile or frown. Has a significant facial birthmark; a patch of greyish-black skin, stretching from her left ear to the bridge of her nose, covering much of her left cheek.
At a glance.
Daughter of a woman named Arielle. Might have a father, though she wouldn’t know.
Lived in isolation with her mother, in a tiny, rundown hut hidden somewhere in the woods of Styga.
Never knew much about Arielle, despite only ever having her for company in the first six years of life.
Never met (or saw, or heard) anyone else until she was 6 years old, when her mother left her on the doorstep of an orphanage and vanished without a trace.
Emotionally blind. Struggles to recognize or identify emotion in herself or others, and cannot describe nor understand her own feelings. As such, she doesn’t put much thought or focus into the topic of emotion.
Struggles with what we would call scopophobia. Hates to be looked at and refuses to make eye contact. Though she does not realize she is afraid of being seen, her body reacts all the same.
Bullied and/or ostracized and avoided by the other orphans, who found her to be “unsettling.”
Was never shown to anyone as a choice for adoption, as the orphanage workers worried that she would be unable to assimilate into a family.
Found her only friend in Inston Wilbarrick, the one worker who put in the effort to learn her behaviors and personality. While he has since moved to Vallera, he offered up his family’s old “guest residence” in Iron Crown to her once she aged out of the orphanage. He insisted he would sell it otherwise.
Took to writing at the age of 14, when instructed to by Inston. While she did this because he “told her to” (aka expressed that he’d like her to try), she found herself fascinated by the feelings it inspired in her.
Has a tendency to write dark, unsettling, and violent stories, often using imagery she has seen in her nightmares.
Doesn’t remember exactly what her mother looked like, but knows she had blonde hair. Subsequently keeps her own hair dyed.

summary...
Wynni Venus is still haunted by her mother's murder, now a twelve-year-old cold case that everyone has given up on; including herself, as much as she hates to admit it. Though she's made a name and a life for herself since, utilizing her gift of memory collection as a Memory Archivist, she can't shake the feeling that she's missing something.
When a woman enters the Archives one day in search of her missing friend and the eight people she'd disappeared alongside, Wynni finds herself captivated by the story and, just like she did twelve years ago, launches her own investigation.
By the time she realizes that she's gotten herself involved in something beyond her scope of understanding, she's in too deep to pull herself back out.

• Wynni Venus (she/her) •/ A human woman gifted with minemne (memory collection). Wynni spent eight years searching for anything that would solve her mother's murder. Now, she finds herself equally pulled in by the case of Iron Crown's Nine.
• Annikana "Anna" Belhast (she/her) •/ The ex-girlfriend of Evanthe Dayflower, one of Iron Crown's Nine. Though she ended her relationship with Evanthe several years ago, Anna always has and always will care for her. So when Evanthe and her friends disappear under bizarre circumstances, Anna will do anything to find them.
• Noam Vivendel (he/him) •/ A musician-for-hire with big dreams and an eternal longing for someone who understands him. Wynni Venus charms Noam in a way few have, and he thinks he'd like to be her friend. He doesn't expect or want anything that follows, but he's never been the type to leave a friend alone in hell.
• Bronwyn Lucille (she/her) •/ A bitter and jaded woman cursed with The Wolfbite. When a bounty hunter comes to her with a sizable sum of money in exchange for her help in tracking down a woman in trouble, Bronwyn is quick to say yes.
• Iron Crown's Nine •/ Kalia, Agnet Rel Inkoia, Alysum Farenwood, Vasni Gloryne, Imre Ovelian, Gesine Ironfell, Evanthe Dayflower, Riella Aldera, Conalll Pridesinger.
APPEARANCE -/ Five feet and three inches tall. Rosy white skin. Light blue eyes. Messy light blond hair kept short. Blue-framed glasses. A bit chubby. Faint scar crossing over his lips. Blotchy pink birthmark over the pulse point of his throat.

The Hollows in Our Minds (signified by the tag thiom) is a fantasy story set in the world of Erapiae, written in third person and present tense with a nonlinear narrative.
SUMMARY: “One year and five months after Conall Pridesinger sets out to find his missing friend, Kalia wakes up with her head in a pool of her own blood and her mother’s ghost stuck in her body. Combatting her head wound and a tormenting possession, Kalia slowly pieces together the events of the last year as she sets out to find and rescue the friends she’s made.”

so ive been letting thiom marinate for nearly 6 years. I've been so back and forth w/ everything I wanted for it. I didn't know WHAT I wanted for it. it's been sitting on a thinking shelf for so long, and I thought I would never get anywhere w/ it
so I am EXTREMELY excited to say that ive finally reached an alignment of ideas that feels PERFECT.
sure, it's still not fully fleshed out. but that's bc i am, first and foremost, a person who wants to be able to experience the story alongside my characters when i run through it the first time. what matters is that i've figured out Enough to give me a trajectory.
I even figured out the ending! i used to be sooo resistant to actually considering the ending, bc I didn't want to think abt "saying goodbye" to my characters and their stories. But I thought of an ending that I feel is very meaningful to me, and I'm so excited to tell this story.
Anyway. I just wanted to share that. I'm literally so excited haha
