Lots of red for a 3rd draft. Hopefully that'll make @chancenjelly editing tasks easier when it's her turn to bleed the pages. . #amediting #amwriting #writersofinstagram #authorsofinstagram #thirddraft #newnovel #wordsmithing #thrillerbooks #comingsoon https://www.instagram.com/p/B-9gAjen8WY/?igshid=19f4enfppao24

Another sunrise. That’s two this week. I’m working on character depth in my WIP this morning. Need to make sure she’s real enough for an agent to see. #amwriting #thirddraft #writerslife #writersofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqza6XIHfKT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11ozqnoq12h0u
You read that right! If you're interested, you can DM me your emails, and I'll send you either a Word doc or a Google doc of the first ten chapters of my second revision. If you want, I can also read whatever WIPs you're currently working on. Hopefully y'all will enjoy the beginning of the story while giving me helpful suggestions. :: :: :: #writersfollowwriters #writerofig #writersofinstagram #writerssupportingwriters #writingcommunity #amwriting #amrevising #youngadultwriter #sanantoniowriter #texaswriter #yafiction #teendrama #teenfiction #teenromance #early2000s #thirddraft #yup (at San Antonio, Texas)
Okay, I’m going to try and finish draft 3. I keep going back and forth on this book. That’s a sign, right? ••••••••••••••••••• Anyone else writing today?
Story Excerpt. "Dese Bones Gwine Rise Again"
The interview came and went. I sighed and smiled and did everything I was told to do. I was freshly scrubbed and doll-like again, and my mother had given me a red ribbon to tie my hair back with. People told me I was pretty, and I wanted to call them out on their bold lies but of course I couldn’t. I lost that ability of mine. It’d drained out one night from my ears and the grass had soaked it up like fertilizer. I was asked if I liked all of this, and for a moment I was unsure of what to say. I wanted to scream at him, knock his teeth out, and rip my bow and wave it in surrender. Instead I said yes, yes I was.
“And how do you think you got up there, anyways, Miss Valentine?”
“I think it was an accident.”
“In what way, an accident?”
“The Earth’s fault.”
I’d thought the reason over many nights. Young as I was, I didn’t have a stellar background on the physics of it. But it must have been something in the air when I took that fateful jump. The world, somehow, forgot itself, or slipped to the side and everything was skewed. And it was timing, and it was that deep wish of mine I’d carried around for so long—for something exciting to happen to me. And maybe the Earth heard that finally, and forgot for a moment.
“I think I got stuck like a star does, when it’s born. But I’m not some piece of space; I’m human.”
I heard the question in my voice before the sentence was finished. I’m human. A girl. I’m not a bit of rock and dust that has no choice but to stand up in the sky. I realized my hands were outstretched in a see? This is what I am, see? This is flesh and a pile of bones that contains life!
“A… star?”
“Yes, and when they fall, they crash to the Earth again and their light goes out.”
“And do you think you will crash?”
“Most definitely. Any day now,” I said, as I untied my bow and let it fall to the ground. There’s always an ending.
After the interview, Jimmy stayed behind.
“I wanted to ask you something,” he said.
“What’s that?”
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
“Why now?” I said, suddenly suspicious. “Why not before when I could walk with you, go to the movies with you?”
The things I wanted were now coming at me too fast to fend off. I wanted so much, but now, now that I was trapped and stuck to space like some warped, cement fixture, I only observed. And Jimmy had never asked me before, but Mr. Dempsy—he—he had always thought I was something.
“Because… I don’t know. Why does it matter? I’m asking now.”
“I think it’s too late.”
“No, but. It’s not.”
“I’m stuck here, Jimmy. Didn’t you even listen? I can’t even hold hands with you.”
“It doesn’t matter,” he said.
Oh, but it does. It matters so much.
