been seeing this circulate a lot lately, so i feel spiritually obligated to say that yes, aerion targaryen is a literal piece of shit. an irredeemable person. someone you absolutely should not be defending with your whole chest (unless you're maekar then go babe). he's called the monstrous for a reason. this man is a walking biohazard who actively chooses to be a problem for everyone within a ten-mile radius any time. any place. because he genuinely believes he's entitled to it. he is one of the clearest, loudest examples of targaryen madness: vain, cruel, arrogant, and genuinely convinced he was a dragon trapped in human flesh. no sir, you are not a dragon. you are a guy. a deeply unwell guy who should be in the mental asylum. literally, everything about him is failson behavior. acting all chivalrous and courteous in front of your dad only. cringe. pathetic. a loser in the most historical sense of the word. threatening to castrate your littlest brother so he would 'become a sister' you could marry. hello??? weirdo. jail. he should honestly just die. frankly, i don’t even think maekar sending him off to lys was ever going to fix him.

and lemme say this because this is not the first or second time since the zutaranti incident that I've witnessed this hypocrisy now.

context: zutaranti was a user on twitter who was screenshotting anti kataang takes on tumblr and putting them on twitter to get called out or whatever. zutara shippers got very mad at this and said their actions were encouraging the harassment of these tumblr users and when zutaranti’s actions eventually turned into bigotry (antiblackness to be specific) kataang shippers and especially black kataang shippers were accused of enabling zutaranti through the support of this person’s prior actions in inciting ship war discourse. there was even a post on here about how kataang shippers shouldn’t have been surprised that this person turned out to be antiblack because antiblackness is somehow inherent to a shipping preference which is frankly disgusting and victim-blamey but whatever.

now that this zutaranti person has been rightfully ran off of both platforms, not only are zutara tumblr shippers going on twitter and posting screenshots of their anti kataang takes themselves but are also coming under correctly tagged anti zutara takes in the kataang tag on tumblr, going back and forth all hours with kataang shippers, insinuating kataang shippers are male incels, mostly white dudes, conservatives, etc for us to see.

is this not the exact behavior zutaranti was engaging in before they were called out? that kataang shippers were told they should have never supported?? now i find that even though the user has been removed from the equation, screenshots are still being made, identity politics are still being invoked in ship wars, the same behavior is still persisting and not a single person from that side is being asked to tell these people off like kataang shippers were expected to. i've even seen the same zutara shippers who made callout posts about zutaranti under kataang/anti zutara tumblr posts and in twitter replies of kataang shippers defending these idpol takes instead of calling out their fellow shippers for intentionally inciting the same kind of discourse zutaranti was.

so i just wanna know why is the validation of your echo chambers not enough? why go on a completely different platform posting your anti kataang takes where you know kataang shippers will see “i know i will be dragged for this” ??? why do you people (and yes I'm aware I'm generalizing) take any opportunity you can to preach about the ‘lack of ethics of shipping kataang’ to anyone who will listen like religious missionaries trying to convert non-believers? because that’s frankly how i personally perceive this behavior and what you guys genuinely look like from the outside. in fact, there seems to be this constant need to preach to the masses and reach anyone who would listen on why kataang is horrible, misogynistic, all in efforts to recruit more people to the cause. if this wasn’t true, the anti aang tags wouldn’t be filled day in, day out with zutara shippers and virtually nobody else. even zuko’s anti tag is not filled with as many kataang shippers and is way less populated in general both with posts and notes compared to aang’s which is genuinely bordering on bot levels but i digress.

anyyyyywayssss all this to say i felt like making this post because i can see where this is headed. another zutaranti will emerge due to the invocation of identity politics in shipping wars and the individuals from the zutara camp who are guilty of partaking in this behavior will not be held accountable but the kataang shippers who are (and even those who aren’t) will. and this could honestly be avoided on both sides if people could just be content with writing fics, posting headcanons, supporting fan artists and yes even ranting in your frickin shipping spaces without the constant shipping-evangelizing/bringing anti takes to a whole other platform and coming under correctly tagged anti posts of your ship where you know discourse will erupt.
