Guys I have a fanfic idea!! I've started writing it but im puzzled so there's the first chapter + the Concept.
Ok so im thinking heavy angst but like happy ending bc I hate sad things hahahaha. Anyway. It's University AU. so Kei and Tadashi have still been friends since childhood in this AU. Tadashi has been like in love with kei for as long as he can remember and Kei knows it. However kei has a very traditional family and besides his brother they aren't supportive of any kind of same sex relationship. When they start University Tadashi starts to distance himself as he likes kei too much and staying around him is too much for him handle and kei lets it happen pulling away too. (This is where the fic starts >>) Now time skip to 4th year of university. It's their last year and there's a housing issue so housing gets reassigned and you'll never guess it…. kei and tadashi end up in the same apartment (as well and Hinata and tobio who are already dating).
There's what I've written so far 😣
———
“The tulips are blooming early,” Kei said. The sound of his suitcase dragging across the gravel stopped as he paused a few steps behind him.
“I guess they are,” Tadashi said. “They don’t look as pretty as they used to.”
His green hair shifted gently in the wind as he stared at the apartment door instead of turning around.
“So we’re housemates,” Kei said, still not taking another step. “With those two idiots.”
Tadashi’s lips parted, his eyes still fixed on the door.
“Yeah,” he said softly. “Housemates.”
He stepped closer, his shoes crunching against the gravel. The keys slipped from his pocket, catching the sunlight as he pulled them out. A sharp flash of light bounced off Kei’s glasses.
Tadashi fumbled slightly before sliding the key into the lock.
For a second, neither of them moved.
———
“Ta-da-shi!”
Shoyo’s voice bounced off the apartment walls as he barreled toward him, throwing his arms around Yamaguchi’s neck without hesitation.
“Missed you, bro!”
“I missed you too, Sho,” Tadashi said softly, a faint pink spreading across his cheeks.
“Come on,” Hinata said, already tugging at his sleeve. “You have to see your room. It’s huge.”
“shoyo, wait—”
Too late. Hinata was already dragging him down the hallway.
Across the room, Kei set his suitcase down near the wall.
“Tsukishima,” Tobio said, stepping forward with a small smile that barely lifted the corners of his mouth.
“Kageyama.”
Tobio held out his fist.
Kei bumped it once, then again when Tobio pulled him briefly into a quick one-armed hug, the kind that lasted barely a second.
“Didn’t think housing would put us together again,” Tobio said.
Kei adjusted his glasses. “Neither did I.”
From down the hallway, Hinata’s voice rang out again.
“Tadashi! Your window looks straight at the courtyard! You can literally see the tulips from here!”
For a moment, Kei’s gaze drifted toward the hall.
Then he looked away.
———
The living room was quiet, the soft glow of the TV flickering across the walls as a movie played.
Shoyo was curled comfortably in Tobio’s lap, his head resting against his chest. Tobio’s hand had slipped under the hem of Shoyo’s shirt, absentmindedly tracing slow shapes against his skin while the other rested around his waist.
Hinata hummed quietly at something happening on screen.
Tobio pressed a brief kiss to the top of his hair without looking away from the movie.
On the other side of the couch, Kei and Tadashi sat with an uncomfortable space between them.
Too much space.
Tadashi leaned forward slightly, elbows resting on his knees, his attention fixed on the TV even though his eyes hadn’t followed the plot in the last ten minutes.
Kei sat back against the cushions, one arm resting along the back of the couch, his fingers tapping faintly against the fabric.
Neither of them spoke.
The sound track from the movie filled the silence for them.
For a moment, Tadashi shifted, like he might say something.
He didn’t.
———
After a while, Tobio and Hinata drifted off toward their room, a sleepy Shoyo clinging to Tobio’s arm as they waved a quiet goodnight.
The apartment fell silent.
Tadashi didn’t move.
The air in the living room felt heavy somehow, like the walls themselves were holding their breath.
For as long as he could remember, Tsukishima had been the only person in his heart. The feeling was strange now, still warm, but no longer comforting.
Outside the window, tulip petals stirred in the cool spring air drifting through the crack.
Tadashi let out a quiet breath.
That feels nice…
“So,” he said after a moment.
“How have you been… Kei?”
Kei didn’t answer right away.
The TV flickered quietly across the room.
“I’ve been fine.”
Silence settled between them again.
Tadashi nodded, even though Kei wasn’t looking at him.
“Good,” he said after a moment. “That’s… good.”
Another stretch of quiet followed.
Tadashi felt his heart begin to pound faster in his chest.
A small sound caught in his throat.
I’m sorry. Forgive me. Kei, I love you.
The words pressed against his chest, desperate to be said.
But he couldn’t.
Tadashi stood up abruptly.
“It’s late,” he said, his voice quieter than he meant it to be. “I have a ten a.m.”
He paused, fingers tightening slightly at his sides.
“Goodnight, Kei.
“Night,” Kei said, his voice cracking slightly. He hadn’t meant for it to.
He waited until Tadashi’s door clicked shut before standing up slowly.
The living room felt strangely empty.
Kei adjusted the cushions on the couch, smoothing out the ones Hinata had crushed earlier. He turned off the TV, folded the blankets, and carried the empty popcorn bowl to the kitchen.
He checked the stove.
The lights.
The window.
Everything was already off.
Still, he lingered.
Kei filled a glass with water, the quiet rush from the tap the only sound in the apartment. He stared at the cup for a long time, watching the water swirl slowly inside.
His fingers tightened slightly around the glass.
After a moment, he poured it down the sink without taking a single sip.
The bathroom light flickered on.
Cold water rushed from the tap as Kei leaned over the sink, splashing it across his face again and again.
He gripped the edge of the counter, breathing hard.
“Fuck,” he muttered quietly.
End chaoter 1 👅👅
