are there planets or communities where witchcraft isnt frowned upon? or is even preferred?

Yes actually! The popularity of each magic style has risen and fallen in history, starting with the declaration of fey magic as untrustworthy, volatile and dangerous. Sorcery was next with the Age of Revelations during which sorcerers fully realised the gruesome price they pay for their craft - that being eternal servitude to the forces of nature and no rest for their souls after dying. Sorcery never really recovered from that and this philosophical chaos was immediately followed by the crusade of the Ancestral Witches and the Black Circle. Though independent from each other, the two groups managed to paint a unifiedly bad image of witchcraft users that made life difficult for anyone of the craft.

Every time one of the streams has fallen out of favour, the other two have enjoyed relative increase of popularity. In the modern timeline setting, the two events bashing both sorcery and witchcraft kind of only left fey magic for people to safely rally behind. I should mention neither stream is inherently good or bad, or relies on “light magic” vs “dark magic”. I will elaborate more on that in my magic worldbuilding post once that is done.

So despite all that, there are still strong witchcraft using communities in the Magic Universe, though many have become refugees or are straight up located towards the edge of the Universe and have little to do with core politics. Dystillus, an ice planet illuminated by a red dwarf sun on the outer rim, is currently the only planet on which witchcraft is favoured in every country. (Icy hails from here). Graynor is another stronghold of witchcraft users, though its population is largely made up of descendants of Solarian refugee witch*ers who fled there after the cultural shift on their home destroyed their previous lifestyle. (Though some witchcraft users did remain on Solaria, there are 138 in their coven today and ex Queen Luna is one of them).

Then there are other societies who are frankly speaking neutral on the matter, either because they preach tolerance, like Lynphea, Ohm and Oppositus, or just don’t really care for magic like Zenith.

Historically, the most advanced and powerful witch societies resided on Eraklyon and Petrakalia. But somewhere two millennia ago the societal ideal and religion of non-magic people of Eraklyon started to shift, and the amicable trade they had set up with witchcraft users no longer seemed fair and desired. They began fearing them and started defamation campaigns to tear power from their hands. There was plenty of sexism involved in this uprising, which is still palpable in the mindset of Eraklyonites today. The once huge empire split into the countries of Manubra 47 known today and they decided to adapt a split society after Earth’s model, almost completely shunning witchcraft from their realm. But just until then witchcraft has been THE thing for people, they loved it. It was empirical enough for non-magic people to follow. That’s why it’s so sus that it is gone.

The Trix plus Selena actually spend some time appealing to that in my S6 rewrite. I have a lot of love to give for witch*ers, which I’m happy to share once I get it all down on paper! But, to summarise, each planet/country has its own complicated history with all of the magic streams and it always boils down to non-magic people against magic users, rather than stream infighting.

25 Days of Writing

Day 9: How was your character’s first kiss? Who with? Where was it? How old were they? Write the scene.

"You're carrying a lot of books."

Rebecca shoots Adam a glance and scowls. "Yes," she agrees, "I am."

He's still smiling at her and he touches her shoulder, stopping her in the middle of the sidewalk. A middle aged man bikes around them, headphones in his ears. He doesn't spare the two teens even a glance.

Adam takes two, then three of the books, despite Rebecca's quiet protests. She sighs.

"Thanks."

"No problem!" He gives her another brilliant smile. He always has the prettiest smiles. "I can tell you're getting sweaty."

She glares at him again. "You can drop the commentary."

"Sure."

They settle back into a quick walk - Rebecca had checked the weather this morning before she had asked her mother if she could go out, and there's a 'high chance of rain' in the afternoon - and it is after noon now, almost two o'clock. She told her mother she'd be home by three. She's doubting it, now.

"What are you gonna do for your Biology paper?" Adam asks suddenly, about a quarter of a mile from his house. "I'm thinking about rainforests, but is that too...unoriginal?"

"You know I'm gonna have to carry all these books myself once you get home."

Adam goes quiet and doesn't ask her about school again.

"Do you wanna come in?"

She hesitates. "I have to be home in fifteen minutes." Not that she'll make it, anyway. A two mile walk across town. It'll take her almost an hour with all the books.

"You can call your parents," Adam says softly, shifting to hold the books more comfortably in one arm, reaching out and opening the door with his other. "Come on."

Rebecca bites her lip but follow him in anyway. They drop the books next to the door and they tumble together, hit the smooth wood and fall over a pair of Adam's father's shoes.

Of all the people Rebecca knows, Adam has the most and least stable family. She can't explain it in words. Just every time she's in the house she can feel the tension, the false smiles, the words that drop from mouths and hit the floor just as heavy as bags and suitcases. She ignores it by pasting on her own smile, pretending not to see how broken up his parents are. But she's been told, anyway. The mother who fell in love with another woman three years after the birth of their youngest son (Carter - Adam and Carter). The father who couldn't take care of them by himself. The government who couldn't help them.

Adam tells Rebecca his little secrets. It's a matter of trust.

"Mom?"

Nothing. Rebecca hovers behind him.

"Do you wanna call your parents? I guess Mom's not home."

"What about your dad?"

Adam shrugs. "He's probably at work."

The dysfunction - if you look closely, it's there, it's obvious. But most people won't.

Rebecca slips into the quiet kitchen, wonders where Carter is but doesn't want to ask. She picks up the phone and dials her number with slightly shaking hands. Her mother picks up on the second ring, talks to her sharply. She explains the situation the best she can, tries to ignore the stinging of her mother's scolding. She's almost fifteen. Why can't she be trusted to stay at a friend's for an hour?

Her mother says she'll come pick her up, sounding exhausted.

Rebecca apologizes and hangs up.

"She just cares about you."

She jumps, turns. He's close, leaning on the counter, watching her. She averts her eyes. She doesn't like him knowing abut her family, because she has no right to complain.

He reaches, moving along the counter and into the same area as Rebecca. He touches her inner wrist and pulls her closer. She just stares at the ground, imagines she's someplace else. Her heart is hammering in her chest. She can hear the blood rushing and suddenly this doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

He tilts her chin up and she looks at him and thinks 'ocean eyes' and there's a tint of gold in there, too. She's got boring eyes, brown, almost hazel, and she's always cursed them. He kisses her with chapped lips and she's never been kissed before, never even had another person touch her lips.

Maybe the way she looked at the glossy girls in magazines wasn't that strange, after all.

Maybe she just needed to be kissed by a just as pretty boy.
