Love how the javanese influence works so well with Krystal!! And also i can sense some Malaysian influences in her?! I cant help but wonder how you got such brilliant inspirations for her and it worked out so well

I can’t take 100% credit for the Java specificity, because I only started honing in on it when my then partner, who is javanese, said upon seeing the early designs that “she looks like many of the girls from school”. Generally speaking, I think there are a lot of similarities between the long-sleeve shirt and straight long skirt outfit ‘formulas’ that I’ve seen from Malaysia and Indo. Maybe even more so when it comes to modest fashion.

My approach to designing is usually to find something that catches my eye, figure out what detail of it stood out to me, and go find where it is from (that’ the most important bit). Once you know what you are specifically looking for, finding different iterations of the same thing becomes much easier without muddling together different cultures and eras. Of course the source in question needs to make sense for your character. Sometimes it is pure chance - like why is my Flora very specifically from the Visayan islands? I happened to catch two travel documentaries about that region at some point and thus knew way more about those islands than I did about any other in the Filippines (that being zero) to base my concepts and research around.

Maybe it’s also that I love both travelling and Knowing Things TM so I pick up a lot of things passively🤷‍♀️. The only culture I’m qualified to represent is my own (and even that is a strong eeeh), so if I’m able to create something that resonates with people who were the inspiration behind it, that is the highest praise I can imagine.

I’m also just generally super happy Krystal is having such a great reception. I went through several previous designs with her and they all weren’t really hitting until I drew the first iteration of this. Then it finally felt like I’ve found my interpretation of Krystal that feels true to how I see her character.

COSMIX SUCKS so i decided to completely redesign it✨

Stella is my first victim for that. Feels like from season 5(?) Winx started to loose spark in their transformations. Like, when u look at cosmix can you tell that THIS is designed for space travel? They just added a bunch of stars and call it a day. For my redesign I took inspiration from LOL Space Groove skinline (I love this line). It just screams futuristic fashion which cosmix does not. So, here we are, Stella the disco diva🫦✨
