Close Shave

I've played with this one story idea for one of my detectives, Lucas, and Adam for years at this point. Driving A up a wall with a detective that's careless and danger prone is beyond delicious, and I've long wanted to see what happens when there's a lasting injury the detective has to deal with while still working a case. So I broke Lucas' wrist. A little snippet is tucked gently beneath the cut.

“You tried to hide your injury,” Adam accuses, the sudden change in topic telling Lucas that Adam’s been chewing on that thought. 

“It wasn’t relevant,” Lucas says with a shrug and an easy smile. “And I don’t like pity parties.”

“It is relevant,” Adam says tersely. “That tells us the thief, supernatural or not, is capable of violence.”

“I think most people are, when cornered.” Lucas lets out a long sigh. “It could’ve been worse.”

“You need more combat training,” Adam says.

“Why? I can just club people with this,” Lucas says, waving his cast covered wrist around. “It’s pretty heavy.”

“This is not a joke.” Adam’s lips pull back, almost enough that Lucas starts looking for fangs. Something about getting under the man’s skin makes Lucas’ heart beat double time. Seeing Adam’s reactions is intoxicating, good or bad.

“Like what?” Laurel asked, leaning back against the edge of the counter while Franky cooked. There jobs were clearly delineated - Franky was in charge of the kitchen and Laurel didn’t touch anything unless asked to hand something over. “Like I might find you tolerable?” The affection in her tone and apparently her expression was poorly masked. She wasn’t sure when Franky had started to grow on her. Truthfully there had always been something of a soft spot even if the other woman was deliberately obnoxious at times. She’d even begrudgingly admitted to Bridget the other day she understood how the two of them worked. “Maybe you should stop cooking for me and I’d go back to liking you a little less.” Franky was something of an enigma still. Laurel wasn’t sure if she continually wanted to get a rise out of her or if it was the banter she was after. It didn’t help that she let herself get pulled in every time.

This move really makes me wonder. Thor seems to shake Loki’s muzzle out of his sleeve with practiced ease and like ??? was this thing stashed away in his armor all along? Why?? Does this happen on a regular basis, Loki annoying Thor so much that he puts a gag on him?? Loki’s resignedly closed eyes with not even a hint of surprise certainly imply it. The way his brows draw up in a “Here we go again” expression.... I need answers.
