Zum Exotismus in der zeitgenössischen Clubmusik präsentiert von SEXES
Exotismus ist ein schillernder, eurozentrischer Begriff, die Geister scheiden sich an ihm und der Bestimmung seiner Wirkmächtigkeit. Als Verunglimpfung ist die Zuschreibung "Exotismus" beliebt: Seit seinem Auftauchen Ende des 18 Jahrhunderts wurde er kaum einer kulturellen Strömung nicht unterstellt. Die Einen fürchten die Verunreinigung ihrer Kultur und ihres Gen-pools, die anderen die Fortführung des Imperialismus mit ästhetischen Mitteln. In der gegenwärtigen Musik- und Clubkultur - fernab der Weltmusikszene, welche mit "Exotismus" nie ein Problem gehabt zu haben scheint - ist ein erstarken 'exotischer' Tendenzen unverkennbar. Musikalisch und Visuell. Die Debatte um "cultural appropriation" wird nicht nur auf twitter mit harten Bandagen geführt - und sicher zu recht! Doch wo endet Ausbeuterische Aneignung durch dominante Gruppen welche historische Ungerechtigkeiten reproduziert und wo beginnt gegenseitige Befruchtung, welche neue Hybride hervorbringt?
Die Veranstaltung HYBRIDIZATION möchte sich der Geschichte des Exotismus im allgemeinen und der jüngsten Debatte, wie sie am Rande der Elektronischen Tanzmusik geführt wird, im besonderen widmen:
Gibt es ein positives Potential des Exotismus? Und was ist die Bedeutung von kultureller Hybridisierung in einer globalen Gesellschaft?
SEXES, das Berliner Label welches diese Veranstaltung anlässlich der Veröffentlichung der Schallplatte "Authentic Exoticism" von Don't DJ durchführt, bringt hier Vortrag, Konzert und Gesprächsrunde zusammen. www.sexes.work

Exoticism in contemporary club music presented by SEXES
Exoticism is an iridescent, eurocentric concept, it seems hard to agree upon. In todays club-music a new love for the exotic is obvious while the debate around "cultural appropriation" is fought with bare-knuckles tweets. Critique comes from those who fear for the purity of their gene-pool as well as from those who suspect an aesthetic kultural-imperialism.
Where does post-colonial cultural exploitation end and where does mutual enrichment of cultures begin?
HYBRIDIZATION looks into the history of this ambivalent concept in general and into it's appliance in the discourse revolving around contemporary club-culture in particular. Is there a positive potential in Exoticism? And what could cultural hybridization mean in a global society?
