People were buzzing all about the event that Sora’s father had seemingly pulled out of thin air. New sheets were spread, the maids were gossiping about how in love Sora and his fiance might be as they set the dining table at the Governor’s mansion. For the gathering would be a spectacle, and the Governor’s son would be engaged to Commodore Roxas Norrington. It was a matter that seemed all but settled.
Sora woke early, hoping that maybe if he were up just early enough he might sneak past his father and get out of the mansion for just a few hours. He was still in his nightshirt, tiptoeing down the stairs holding on to the rail. If he just moved a little quicker he could see the doo-
“Sora,” a voice called out from the hallway, and Sora winced and twisted around to face none other than Governor Hamasaki. A sheepish smile spread across his face. “Father. I didn’t realize you’d be up so early.” The wigged man made his way over to Sora, putting a hand on his shoulder. “My son, it’s a big day. You can’t think that I would rest while something so momentous is about to occur, can you?”
Sora shook his head, a polite smile on his face. “Of course not father. My mistake.” Shit. There was no way that Sora would be able to meet with him. “Now get back upstairs and get dressed. You are not fit for polite society in that.” Sora quickly turned back around and made his way back up the stairs with a sigh. So he would have to accept that he wouldn’t see Theo until after the festivities as planned.
The maids immediately darted forward and started to dress him properly for the party. Sora eyed the buttons and ruffle and wrinkled his nose. “Is this really necessary? Surely the Commodore has already seen how nicely I clean up before.” He adjusted his sleeves, worrying at his lip. “Governor’s orders, sorry sir,” the maid replied, finishing up with him and stepping back. “You look lovely sir. Fit for a prince in fact. The Commodore is lucky t’have you.”
From there it felt like it took days and yet no time at all for the party to be in full swing, and Sora to be cheerfully avoiding being caught alone with the Commodore. As he twisted past a giggling couple about ready to take a turn on the dancefloor, he caught sight of the balcony, clear of anyone. Oh thank the stars. Sora darted for it, twisting past a few more people before he finally managed to make it out there, heading toward the edge of it and peering out at the city below.
“I really have to get out of here,” Sora complained aloud, half bent over the balcony, pressing his forehead against the rail and likely dusting up his nice coat which would scandalize his father.
