Three Musicians, oil on wood panel (ca. 1530) The Master of the Female Half-Lengths (Southern Netherlandish, active 1520–1540) was an anonymous artist or workshop likely based in Antwerp. The nickname was given by 19th-century art historians because their signature featured elegant women depicted from the waist up.

This painting depicts three aristocratic women in a bourgeois interior engaged in a private concert. One woman plays a transverse flute, another plucks a lute, and the third reads from an open score. The musical notation represents the chanson "Jouissance vous donneray" by Clément Marot and Claudin de Sermisy. This work reflects the Northern Renaissance humanist ideal, where musical proficiency served as a symbol of education and virtue for noblewomen. The workshop is celebrated for these small panels of elegant figures, characterized by delicate features and heart-shaped faces. Loc. Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles.
