Pulptober 2024 Day 5: Felifax/Monster Hero

As the resident guy who's actually read the Felifax book, I'll say a bit about the Tiger Man.

Rama's honestly not all that monstrous. Sure, he's got dark stripes on his skin like a tiger, and smells like a tiger, but otherwise is a handsome young human man with superior physical development. And the heroine cures his scent problem with Science! so that she can act on her romantic attraction to him. (Socially, his Hindustani origins might be more of a problem for his marriage to a white Englishwoman.)

Perhaps the closest he comes to being a "monster" is at the beginning of the book where young Rama is considered a cryptid by the locals and a famous detective is called in to investigate the strange happenings.

But perhaps it's a good reminder that a mildly unusual appearance and behavior can get you labeled as "monstrous" and treated as inhuman.
