Beijing 2022. Ice Dance. FD. Some Thoughts.
First things first. FD is the last competition I'm waking up at 3.45 a.m. for. It makes me happy.
Garabedian/Sénécal 🇦🇲 Shout out to the first Armenian pair to participate in the Olympics in 16 years and to qualify for the FD (!). That's a great achievement! It's very important for Tina to represent Armenia. Not everything is about medals, sometimes it's about roots and about been seen. And Simon is there to help. They skated clean, lively and musically today.
Kazakova/Reviya 🇬🇪 Also a shout out to Masha&Gosha: qualifications to the FD is an achievement for them. I didn't really liked their music - too creepy for me, and I'm not a huge fan of pantomime. I like their lifts, especially a rotational one, Masha works in lifts, she's not a sloppy sack of potatos. No idea if they have an opportunity to change a coach, but it's necessary.
Taschlerová/Taschler 🇨🇿 Natálie has me charmed! She knows how to skate, she's very energetic, shows strength. They show good speed, spin is fast. I enjoyed watching them.
Davis/Smolkin🪆 So, Moulin Rouge. Idk if Diana&Gleb were still juniors, their dance could have been a sweet homage to V/M. But they're not, and it looks like a plain imitation. The thing is: Olympics can give a boost, right? I don't see them deserving one 'cause Diana is a bad skater and they don't have their own personality on the ice. As a proof that I don't hate them, here's a praise: I like the rotational lift!
Lajoie/Lagha 🇨🇦 Every time I watch this program and listen to this music I'm like "What's the noise in my years?", so the sound is annoying to me. But at the end the puzzle is always put together, and I'm like "Oh, that was interesting! I want to rewatch!". I love their curve lift, it's beautiful and difficult, especially when Marj slides down headfirst. Also, did you notice their hands doing little wings/feathers movements? These two definitely have personality! The speed is crazy. So, there is only two points between them and Davis/Smolkin. Yeah, sure, haha.
Interlude 1. God bless Keegan Messing with the giant Canadian flag in the stands.
Shiyue/Xinyu 🇨🇳 I liked them today a lot. Entrance in the straight-line lift is so difficult! She's very graceful.
Hawayek/Baker 🇺🇲 One foot in the beginning was GORGEOUS! The curve lift was executed perfectly, and it's difficult, Jean-Luc changes directions, Kaitlin's position is beautiful. I loved the dance A LOT.
Fear/Gibson 🇬🇧 Okey, Lilah's skating skills leave much to be desired. But I like this dance, it's a very good choise for the Olympic ice. Lewis is wonderful.
Smart/Diaz 🇪🇸 This season I found myself being their fan. Which was very unexpected 'cause earlier I was either indifferent or just didn't like them, their programs, their skating. So when thinking about this change of attitudes of mine I understood that the reason is their progress through years. Zorro turned out to be a beautiful dance. Today they skated PERFECTLY, the best skate in the season. The curve lift is gorgeous. Olivia looks stunning, her dress is the best this season. 2nd best skate today!
Fournier Beaudry/Sørensen 🇨🇦 Okey, I was expecting red dress, I really liked Lolo's look. With the change of music the dance has lost it's magic for me. Beautiful lifts, but mistake on the twizzles.
Guignard/Fabbri 🇮🇹 Although I usually root for them (mainly because of their technique), this is not "my" dance. I often get bored. But not today! Today they were good and strong. Their skating skills are smth to be admired!
Gilles/Poirier 🇨🇦 This program doesn't work for me, although the music is lovely. They didn't manage one of the lifts. Paul looked like a deer in the headlights the whole dance long. Watching them knowing it was bad was heartbreaking for me.
Stepanova/Bukin🪆This season I'm especially sad, that Sasha's skating skills aren't good. 'Cause their dances are the best in the national team. The straight-line lift doesn't look aesthetically pleasing to me. Idk it was almost clean apart from mistake in the spread eagle, but kinda tight skate?
Chock/Bates 🇺🇲 The dance itself is very fascinating, it doesn't bore me. NASA should use it for promotion. They skated stronger in the TE. Anyway Maddie&Evan were 10th in Pyeongchang, they are 4th today. Isn't bad, is it?
Hubbell/Donohue 🇺🇸 Skate of the life. The best today. Their skating skills are the best, AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.
Sinitsina/Katsalapov🪆Does anybody understand their choreo steps at the end? I'm very sorry, but every time they start these steps I get sooo surprised (although I know it's coming) and then start laughing. I don't think that their dances this season deserve silver medal. Sue me. Also, Nikita is dressed awfully.
Papadakis/Cizeron 🇲🇫 I'm not bothered with that not-tango. Isn't it a modern interpretation, kinda contemporary tango? Not my favorite dance, but so smooth and light. A deserved gold. They are happy, I'm almost happy.

I really like this team, they have some nice qualities! I always end up liking all of their programs. Hopefully they have a solid free dance and can move up in the standings.
