TOP 10 Damian Wayne ships on AO3
I saw you wrote some stories about Bart Allen and Jaime Reyes. I don’t know much about those characters, why do you think they suit each other? If they were soulmates in TTMHMYC what colour eyes would they have?
Funny you should ask! Before I ever thought of Damian and Colin and TTMHMYC, I used the same Soulmate Eyes AU for Jaime and Bart. Now that fic didn't get written back when I was thinking of it, but I tested the AU on that ship first. I'd give Jaime dark copper eyes, and Bart sage green. Though back then I probably would have just said green and brown lol.
Gosh, I haven't like deep thought about those two in a minute. But I was really, really into that pairing back in 2017-2019. I still love them, to be fair. The ship is mainly based off of the Young Justice cartoon, back when there were only 2 seasons and we didn't know there would be more. I still haven't seen the new ones yet, but I want to.
Bart's character in particular in that show, how he came from a terrible future that he set out to change only to meet Jaime who supposedly was part of the reason that future happened in the first place, but then Bart chose to help him so he'd never become that terrible guy...it just hit my feels like a truck! The fanfics I read didn't help, but they were SO good. And friends to lovers is always fun when it comes to ships.
As far as the comic versions of them, I don't know if they've actually met? Jaime's in a weird spot as far as the DC timeline goes. I've seen him shoehorned into Dick's era of the Titan's and that doesn't seem right for him. I'd put him in Tim's, and not just so he could meet Bart, but because that works better with Jaime being the third Blue Beetle and it gives Ted Kord time to be Blue Beetle before Jaime comes around.
Someday I might just write the Bluepulse Soulmate Eyes AU fic. It was MUCH shorter in concept, just a backdrop to then explore how that would affect the main YJ show plot, but it was still fun. Plus I've said lots of times that any of you guys could use the Eyes AU for any ship in any fanon. Might as well prove it.
I think my favourite thing about the way you write Colin and Damian is how they're both so protective of each other. I love how when one of them is down or struggling the other is right there to encourage them and cheer them up while telling off whomever upset them. It's really sweet, but I also have this vision of them in danger and each of them fighting tooth and nail to be the one to sacrifice themselves for the other. There's a bomb or something, and both of them keep yelling at the other "Get to safety! I'll try to stop it!" And Colin runs forward only for Damian to trip him and race past him, then Abuse comes out and tosses Damian behind him, then Damian throws a rope around Abuse to stop him, and finally they do something so they're tied together and can't move or they're both handcuffed to a rail or something. They argue with each other for a bit then realize it's quiet, and Jason's just like "Yeah, we fixed it 15 minutes ago. We had a betting pool going on when you guys would notice."
XDDDDD Yes! This is the type of hijinks I want for them down the line.
And hey, that's not even my original idea. That's canon. Lest we forget one of the first things they said to each other, in the spirit of protecting the dumb kid who showed up where kids were found dead.

That was such a cute little scene of Colin and Jason! I love that in both your universes Jason basically adopts him and is like "the rest of them suck, but you're cool so I'm claiming you as my little brother." Does he do the same thing in your mer story? Like, Damian brings Colin home like "See? He's REAL!" And Jason just swims over like "Finally, a brother I really like!"
Heheheh, not gonna lie, I laughed at this for like twenty minutes XD
So yes, Jason does step up (or swim up?) to look out for Colin in pretty much every universe of mine. But it's more because my delulu mind thinks Jason would see a lot of himself, and some of Roy in Colin, so his instincts tell him that Colin is their boy.
In a universe or two of mine, which we haven't gotten to yet, Jason becomes a parent figure, but in most others he's a big brother. If he does pt down the others to boost Colin up, it's all teasing. He loves the others, even if he thinks they're stupid/stubborn/dense as a rock.
Now in the mer AU it's interesting. He clocks on way before the others do that Colin might be hiding something. Did the kid really never learn to swim right because he grew up alone without other mers, or was he held captive by humans? He seems surprised when Jason describes human things to him, but not because he's never heard of it, because he seems to think Jason is wildly wrong.
He likes the lil goldfish tho, and is more than happy to let Colin hang around with him and Roy and Lian when he needs a break from...certain people at the castle.
For the omegaverse, how do you see the rest of the Batfam? Would Colin be the only omega, and if so how does the family react to suddenly having an omega in their midst?
Ooh okay, I can do a quick rundown.
Alphas: Bruce, Alfred, Cass, Duke, Damian
Betas: Tim, Dick, Steph
Omegas: Barbara, Jason, Colin
So Colin isn't the only omega, but he IS the youngest. By the time he starts coming around regularly, most of the pack feels very refreshed having a sweet boy like Colin brightening up the place with his little showings of care. And they're very, VERY protective. They watch Damian like hawks after the boys hit puberty, but they all knew the two of them would end up together, they never had eyes for anyone else.
Admittedly it's tough for them to have an unclaimed pup on the fringe of their pack. They don't want to push Colin's boundaries by marking him as theirs without permission, but they crave the need to scent him for safety. Jason breaks first, or rather gives in first. When he stopped by once to cook for the fam, he snatched Colin up from playing video games with Damian and friends so he could be a taste tester (and yes this satisfied Jason's aching need to feed the pups what of it). Colin, always happy to help, was sitting on one of the barstools at the kitchen island happily munching away at everything Jason fed him.
"Mm! I wish I could eat like this all the time!"
After a pause, he felt Jason's hand on the back of his head, pulling him in for a hug. Colin loved hugs, so he nuzzled into Jason's chest. It took him a while to realize how long it lasted, and that he smelled Jason's scent on him because Jason was nuzzling him back. After one last cheek rub, Jason pulled back and looked him in the eye. "You ever get hungry, come find me. I'll make sure you get plenty to eat. Okay?"
"Okay..." Colin was wide eyed, a little timid, but...happy. Before long the kitchen was filled with the scent of two happy omegas.

Oh, that's complicated, cause I see Colin as both Buttercup AND Westley but mostly Buttercup. Sorry for the late reply by the way, had a lot to think about.
So yes, I do have an AU concept (keyword being concept) in my mind based off the Princess Bride, but there are some changes.
I see Colin being a farm boy, St. Aden's being a farm. One day, when he was a kid (not sure whether to go with 10 or 13) a new boy came to work on the farm, but it would only be for the summer. Damian was a brat, and Colin didn't put up with his shit. They had a fist fight in the pig pen, and after that Damian was a lot calmer and respected Colin. When Colin told him to tend to the horses, to harvest the crops, to chop the wood, Damian would answer with "as you wish".
By the end of the summer, Colin was devasted that Damian was leaving. He knew it was stupid to think he was in love, but he really believed he loved Damian, and he wanted to believe that every time Damian said "as you wish" it was his way of returning his feelings. Especially when Damian asks if he can come back one day.
What Colin didn't know was that Damian was really a prince, sent to St. Aden's to learn humility and the lesson of hard work by his father. When he returned to his kingdom, he told his father that he met the boy who would be his husband. But when they journey back to St. Aden's with the royal convoy, they found the farm burned to the ground, the banner of the kingdom across the sea erected in its soil. They'd conquered the land on the edge of Damian's kingdom's territory, and declared war.
Across the sea, groomed and raised to be the husband of the enemy king, Colin lived in a daze, kept as the pretty prize of conquest. His only home, gone. His freedom, gone. His first love...gone, killed at sea by the Dread Pirates who sailed the seas at night, or so he had been told. On the dawn of his sixteenth birthday, he would be married, and even his heart and body wouldn't belong to him anymore. But Colin had enough will to survive, and played the obedient captive. So much so that the enemy king granted him permission to go riding on horseback...
I recently saw a thing on Tumblr talking about Damian's sleeping habits and how they evolved from being on his back, above the covers, aware of everything around him in case of attack or emergency when he first arrived to now coming home and just throwing himself into bed face-down because he's much more comfortable with Bruce and feels much safer at home.
That got me wondering: how does Colin sleep in your fic? On his back nervously, on his side, does he lie face-down with his head in the pillow, or something else? Have his sleeping habits changed since he and Damian became soulmates?
I'm so glad to hear that about tho. I always felt a kinda sad seeing his little Spartan sleeping habits, I just wanted him to feel safe. I low key did this in my AU, but didn't get to show the progression much. Still, it makes my heart happy to know Damian feels safe with Baba. (I'm not thinking about situations where he's away from home and he regresses a little bit, why are you asking)
I imagine Colin sleeping really curled up, like his legs are either pulled to his chest or tucked right up against him, but the covers are always loose. In my head it's from a past experience where he and the covers were both ripped out of bed and thrown on the ground, so he keeps his legs close and the covers never tucked tightly around him. I also imagine that when he was very little he had the same behavior my cousin had, RMD (rhythmic movement disorder), where he repeatedly lifted and dropped his head on his pillow over and over until he fell asleep. It's a self soothing behavior that's believed to mimic the sensation of being rocked to sleep. Unfortunately that was why he got dragged out of bed like that...anyway it's not like Colin remembers WHY he sleeps like that.
Since he and Damian got close enough to have sometimes sleepovers, Colin's gotten a lot more relaxed with his body. Still a side sleeper, but he does curl up nearly as much so that cuddling with Damian is a lot more comfy.
