I know you aren't the biggest fan of the idea of TNBC getting a sequel (though really, who is?) But if Disney ever did decide to do so, what kind of story would you want them to do? I'd honestly love to see an anthology film (in the same vain of Trick R' Treat or Creepshow,) spending a Halloween night seeing different stories about our favorite monsters doing what they do best. Hell, I'd love to see a short film revolving around whatever happened with that "guy in Kentucky."
I answered this in another ask, but I’d love to talk more about it since there’s a lot of attention pertaining to this, now.
Disney has done Nightmare-related shows before, which were performed to celebrate the Haunted Mansion Holiday’s anniversary for a few years. But I kid you not - those were f*kin amazing!!! From the acting to the dialogue, Disney really knew what they were doing when they did this. They included side characters, they made jokes that WORKED, and they had segments where characters even sang and dance. Honestly, all of that COULD work for a movie/Broadway show, or dare I say make a “remake”, since they managed all of that live-action. Hell, if they made one back then, I’m positive it would’ve turned out genuinely good.
To be frank, there are SO many repetitive ideas of “Jack visiting another Holiday” or “Jack taking over another holiday”…that recycled idea was even officially considered more than TWICE. The originality in that is slim to none. I would be extremely upset if that premise managed to make its way into a sequel for the movie. We’ve already seen Jack try to take over another holiday. We’ve SEEN him learn his lesson from it. Having him repeat that same mistake ignores his character development and doesn’t expand on the story so much as it does with the world. And you need a fair balance between the two.
If it were up to me, I’d want something different. To quote my last response:
“if they were to make a NEW story, I wouldn’t want to sit through a musical number with Jack going through the other Holiday doors. I’d want to see a legit story of the holiday leaders interacting with each other and showing how they celebrate together. Maybe some callbacks to Jack’s fiasco and all, but I really want to see what the holiday worlds would be coexisting. Just something creative. And I’d want some of the original cast to be involved, too.”
I would love a story that shows the other holiday worlds & their leaders, but specifically I’m interested to see what they’re up to now that they know the other holiday worlds exist. The Epilogue mentioned the leaders knowing each other’s names and that in the time “many years later” passed, Jack and Sally had children. I want to see what happened in that period of time - how the leaders reacted to knowing other holidays exist, and how Jack’s life has changed since he got with Sally and started a family. I’d also love to see Lock, Shock, and Barrel grown up. What they’d be up to and all now that Oogie’s gone.
But most importantly, I’d want a new villain. And new characters. Oogie Boogie, with no offense to him, has been WAAAYY overused as a recurring villain. I want new conflicts rather than “Oogie trying to take over Halloween Town” or “Oogie trying to get revenge” or “Oogie wanting his own holiday”. And new problems that don’t entirely involve Jack - where someone else can come to the rescue, or we find new heroes. From the other Holiday worlds, maybe.
I’d also love it if it were executed in stop motion again - seeing the world and characters in new technology. Knowing how famous Nightmare is, it’d be well worth the money for production. I would definitely not want it in CGI - Disney has too much of that in recent movies - or maybe, in some alternate universe, traditional animation? Again, live action COULD work if they’re going to execute it the same way they did with their shows. Except with better costumes and effects. And hopefully not make Jack’s head giant like with the Disneyland actor.
And on the most important note, I want some of the original cast to come back. (Danny Elfman, if you cross your fingers…). I would really want Henry Selick to be involved again and MAYBE Tim Burton if he actually decides to do more with movie production.
I love your ideas and how they shed light on the background characters, @titaniummaiden99, and a similar setup to Creepshow would be an interesting short. As for a full fledged movie, well, these are just some of my preferences.
