Thinking about how Petrie's Uncle in The Land Before Time not only managed to guide a whole herd to their doom, but also had some weird beliefs about Racial Superiority and believed the ancient world before their present was all ruled by Pterosaurs and as such he deemed himself as the chosen one to guide and lead them all and wanted to create a paradise

He does also acted very creepily around kids, it says a lot Petrie idolized him while all the adults forbid the children to talk to him.

He does reedems himself and feels bad and is punished to be outcasted for 7 years, mostly as punishment for kidnapping Ducky as a hostage.

The movie in which this plot happens also has Dinosaur Aliens that look like Trodons as a subplot.

Don't look at me like that, everyone knows and talks about Daddy Tops (Cera's dad) racism, but Pterano is very weird and clearly more dangerous because Cera's dad at least isn't as desilusional or willing to kidnap someone lol, there's something very eerie about Petri being so defensive about his uncle who he idolizes and also repeating his same strange bullshit story about "an ancient past where the fliers were superior and ruled over them all"

I hate that i'm intrigued about Pterano and Petri's mom relationship, i thought there was a possibility that Pterano is actually the brother of Petrie's unknown dad, but they're actually brother and sister, and she seems very distrusting, albeit allows her kids to talk to him for a very short time while she's near. But he focuses mostly on Petrie, and makes him lie and cover up for him, is just the kind of stuff that shows in kid movies the same way there's a wolf in red ridding hood. Except that he's a fan favorite and as a kid I really liked him, lmao. His voice acting is very Tim Curry-like lol

Hello! More fanarts of Rinkus and Sierra from The Land before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire.

These were tests to try watercolour paper samples:

Clairefontaine Fontaine 100% cotton, 300 gsm, cloudy effect paper, 22-23/04/2024 Sierra, seconds before getting hit in the face by a fish. I just wanted to see Sierra getting hit in the face with a fish, because I like him but he's an asshole. He already has a fish in the beak so he cannot catch the new one.

The left-and-right shots of Pterano helplessly watching the chaos?

Instead of simply having the raptors close in on the group and fade to black or something, the animators went all in. Showed some of them putting up a fight. They still find clever ways to downplay SOME of the violence using shadows and shots of bodies falling and blocking the camera, as well as dust thrown up by the fighting and water-vapor.

As for the 'camera' movement - the rocks trickling down first, the slow zooms. Dang. Then the shot that haunts Pterano in particular, the 'swimmer' dinosaur being driven off a cliff. Again, it isn't the same design as Ducky and her family, it's a unique one to hammer it home. In an earlier shot we saw what could be this same dinosaur being the last to run out of the gorge. The way he folds in on himself after returning to the main herd, pretty much selling 'yeah, this is what he's trying to make up for'.

I love silly movies that also have effort put in, and gut-punches. They always interest me. There are alien dinosaurs in them, pterosaurs with trauma, musical numbers, and physics lessons.

dialogue writing and voice acting for Land Before Time: The Stone of Cold Fire, goes so hard. Forgot how visceral the "petrie's friends try to casually pry him away from his creepy uncle who's giving them Very Bad Vibes" scene is. Cera's "Petrie, it's TIME. TO. GO." especially

And Little Foot's talk with his grandparents afterwards! His awkward embarrassment for not liking his friend's uncle, and how the grandparents instantly Get Serious finding out about said uncle being around again- they don't go into details, but the whole tone of them listening to Little Foot, reassuring him he has good instincts, and confirming he's right to be wary, feels so goood

Petrie, poor petrie, so nervous as he tries getting info out of his friends for his uncle without being found out... I feel so bad for him, and them, and it's just so well done.

Also the little banter between Cera and Petrie at the beginning. "A land ruled by fliers. HA!" "Was to!" "Was not. "Was TO!" "Was not" "...was to" "was not~"

just, tthe silly little tone shifts in those repeated words as they wander off together. I love when the mane 5 get moments like that. Where they feel like they've been friends for ages and could spend all day chatting and bickering without ever having an awkward silence.

Anyway my grown ass nephew has really great taste in what movies to put on in the background. Can't go wrong with a classic
