Did you actually have a gas leak omg

Our ex-neighbour* had dual gas and carbon monoxide leaks for the last 4 years in addition to regularly setting his own house on fire in increasingly cartoonish ways**

The fire service kept giving us talks on "arson prevention". wish i was exaggerating but you know how COVID just made everyone weirder? It was that.

And the carbon monoxide.

*we live in a terrace, so we share a wall and chimney

**my favourite of which was the time when he left a tree-length log in the fireplace entirely unattended, with the door open & the log trailing out onto the wooden (!) floor.

Other times it was just burning plastic & accelerants. Boring normiecore shit.

He moved out two years ago, but there have been gas leaks intermittently ever since, and the people who bought his house have since discovered an electric wire grounded to a copper pipe, which the council sent someone to sort out immediately because "it could have caused the entire gas line for the entire street to explode" and there's a gas station nearby.

We found this out almost exactly a month ago because they mentioned it offhandedly while they were remodeling the house.*** It'll probably be 3 more years before it's actually fit for human habitation.

***And I was like "ohh, that's why I thought I smelled gas in the kitchen last week. Because I did."
