got this little au i’ve been rolling around in my head. basically jmart go somewhere else, except jon is too intertwined with the eye. there is so little of himself and as his different parts split he is so fickle he fizzles out of existence. jon, the archivist, the pupil all ripped apart. so now martin is alone. he tries to find jon (in the back of his mind he Knows jon is gone, he was tied to the eye even if less so, he Knows jon couldn’t have survived. but he’s stubborn). he goes to the institute, it felt right. and he sees… jon? but it isn’t his jon (yeah it’s a time travel au baby). he sees tim and. a woman? he doesn’t put the pieces together, he’s too busy looking for jon.
(so yeah in this au jon got tim and sasha as assistants and martin with doesnt exist or didn’t take a job at magnus (maybe annabelle pulled some strings to keep things from getting to sidetracked with double martins))
he never does find jon. he doesn’t find anyone else he knows either. he’s alone here. he could make new friends but honestly he doesn’t want to. the fog trails him and his skin is cold to the touch as this body slowly numbs. he is alone. he has no one, could he even handle fostering new connection at this point. he doesn’t think he could. the people he spent years with, building those relationships all gone. forever.
he starts forgetting their faces. jon’s face. he doesn’t know if it’s the fog in his mind or just the sheer time spent not seeing him. he didn’t get any photos or anything, just the vague shape of him in his fading memories. he never does make new friends. he wouldve tried, but he didn’t. he just couldn’t be bothered. it wouldn’t be jon. or melanie and basira and- whatever. he could’ve tried to reconnect with, the other jon, or tim or… sasha. but that wouldn’t have been fair to them, would it? putting the expectation on them to be like they were before. besides, he can’t bear to the look at them anyway. so he stays alone. it doesn’t really hurt though. it feels, right. he doesn’t fight the fog, he just lets the water of the cold cold beach in his dreams swallow him in blissful nothing.
(somewhere along the way he becomes an avatar, i can’t be bothered to think of his death though soooooooooo)
and then believe it or not the sort of time travel but not really (its another universe thats very similar except for a few unimportant bits) is relevant for reasons other than extra angst!!!!!!!!! basically someone from archives meets martin (i have it in my mind as sasha instead of her and michael but it’s pretty open in my mind). they get that sweet sweet ominous advice. martin even takes on something of an alignment with the web, as he works to help this archive not reach the same fate. he lurks around the institute, watching (because he’s partially eye too!! i’m so clever guys) and nudging a bit here and there to keep them ok. he tries to stay on the sidelines thoguh, he couldn’t handle the interaction. he’s still very very lonely front and foremost. he weaves the threads though and manipulates events without anyone knowing. he uses the lonely to hide from the eyes gaze and the web to appear just innocuous enough that jonah sees him as a minor threat if a threat at all.
and maybe he gives a statement (hoo boy imagine that statement) or something but i think he’s too petty for that. he could like, meet someone again. maybe jon
i don’t have a lot of ideas for this just like. martin’s post eyepocalypse life fucking sucks
