Something's happening over on the Tell No Tales Feed 👀
From the shownotes:
Hi everyone, Leon here, writer and producer of Tell No Tales, voice of Leo Quinn, and finally, after almost two years, the bearer of good news! Tell No Tales will be returning on Monday 4th May (shortly after its 4th birthday!), and will continue releasing weekly on Mondays for the remaining nine episodes of season two. The teaser you’re listening to now contains clips from the next four episodes, and there’s so much more to come.
I want to apologise again for the delay and to say just how much I appreciate the kind words and patience from those of you who have reached out to me during the hiatus. The last two years have been an absolute onslaught of unexpected turns in my life, some good, some bad, and it turns out trying to make it as a full-time author is not for the faint of heart (who would’ve guessed?). I also want to say, unequivocally, that these delays were entirely on my end. The actors who worked on this season were absolutely fantastic, and sent in their lines long before season two started releasing. It was the sound design and production elements, both tasks that are solely my responsibility, that caused the hiatus to go on for as long as it did. But the last thing I wanted to do was to risk ending the hiatus too soon, and eventually finding myself back in the same position where I was unable to keep up with the weekly releases. I’m now finally confident that I can release the rest of the season to the best of my ability with no further interruptions, so thank you all again for bearing with me while I worked towards that.
Finally, I’m aware that it’s been a long time since S2E16 was released, which is why I’m announcing this now, a month in advance. If you need time to re-listen and refresh your memory, now is the time to do it. But if you’d rather not, we’ve posted a little re-cap on our tumblr of the story so far. If you haven’t caught up yet, proceed with caution. Spoilers abound.
I have missed making this show more than I can say, and I’m so excited to share the rest of this story with you. See you next month, and remember: the dead don’t bite (yet).
And for those of you interested in a S2 recap, you can find that below the cut:
So, after being convinced – or blackmailed, mostly – to work with Frank, Leo split off from Riley and Julia to investigate the fracturing spirit plane. Their research found that the concentration of spirits – especially powerful ones such as the recently re-discovered categories four through seven – is leading to an oversaturation of the spirit plane, causing many spirits to regress through the categories, and risk fading away, losing their grip on reality entirely.
Riley and Julia, meanwhile, were determined not to let their friend’s betrayal stop them from fighting, and have been working with a woman called Louisa Truman. Louisa represents the activist group Liberating History, who are trying to save The Coronation Club, an old gay bar and home to the spirit of Arthur Holloway – the deceased partner of season one’s Stephen Pritchard.
In the midst of all of this, Frank has apparently been feeling something almost akin to compassion for Leo’s situation, and has been working on developing a mobile tether – a device that will allow Removed spirits to temporarily be released from their capsule. Leo turns a bit of a blind eye to Frank’s unethical experimentation on spirits throughout this process, because this device would allow them to finally speak with their late brother, Noah: the catalyst for every bad decision Leo has made in recent memory.
It is this reunion between Leo and Noah, and the resulting breakdown from Leo’s unresolved grief, that finally reconciles Leo, Riley and Julia. With the three now working together in Frank’s warehouse labs, much is uncovered. Such as Riley’s weird sleepwalking thing, don’t even worry about it I’m sure they’re fine that was totally normal of them. And Julia taking only a few days to work out what Leo’s spent several months puzzling over: that the overcrowding of the spirit plane is Frank’s fault. After his hostile takeover of Mortui Non Morden, Frank never learned the closely guarded ritual for moving spirits on, and has been storing (or, um, occasionally eating) them for decades.
After a conversation with Noah using the new mobile tether, Julia suggests using the tether to speak with Montgomery Whitley – a previous director of Mortui Non Morden, and Frank’s father – to learn about the ritual. Frank is decidedly unimpressed with this suggestion, but after some light bullying and some unexpected compassion, concedes that it is their only option. And that is where we’ll pick up in season two, episode seventeen: A Despicable Man.
Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I hope everyone is keeping safe from the various storms this weekend - up here we're getting up to 10cm of freezing rain, so I'll be keeping indoors. And now a short ADS from me this week.
@thefringespod S3: This season dealt a lot with the guilt that Silver was feeling over Min's actions. All those emotions were especially amplified by how Min was specifically targeting those closest to Sil. I'm so glad he was able to visit the plane of magic, to see their mom, then meet Melinoe, Leanne, CL... It was both heartbreaking and heart warming. And then Mari's Xander?! Definite tears that episode. I was very worried for Sil when he went with Min, especially with how merciless Min was being when manipulating his memories. Thankfully for them, their family and Whim were there to bring him home. ✨
@forgedbondspod Mini Series - Episode 1: I am very curious to hear where this mini series goes! I know the general Arachne and Athena myth, but this series takes us beyond that time. I'm 100% on board with Arachne's suspicion of Athena, and love that she's not afraid to speak her mind! 🕷️
This week my brain wanted to listen to some more familiar things, so I also spent time listening to episodes of @pasitheapowder (particularly those relevant to the Pasithea Pandemonium bracket tournament), @tellnotalespod, and @midnightburgr. I re-listened to the entire Welcome to the Horizon mini series, I love those characters and the town of Hood's Pocket so much! 🏔️
Many of you have noticed that our merch site has been down -- fear not! We have come off of vacation mode and our merch is ONCE AGAIN AVAILABLE! Check it out now before we add some new goodies soon 👀
