You know how in fics Tobirama is typically the competent person who basically sets up the foundations of village (the academy, zoning laws, plumbing, etc)? Well what if Hikaku became the competent person since Tobi is not exactly the best with humaning. It's not a one to one replacement but Hikaku literally has the one braincell of all the founders were supposed to share (Tobi's was replaced with a ping pong tree sponge long ago) and decided to actually compile information on how to build a village. He doesn't get dramatic over paperwork like Hashirama does, doesn't flail every time someone flusters him like Madara, and in general acts like a very calm person.

It's all these factors that draw Tobirama in. I mean, the only people Tobi has basically been exposed to are so far from the norm that they're on Mars, which makes normal Hikaku an outlier. And how does Tobi meet Hikaku? Well, likely Hikaku was organizing scrolls for meetings or something and Tobi bumped into him, essentially the start of every cliche romance story.

HSFHSJFHEI you're SO FUCKING RIGHT. Eldritch Tobirama kinda sucks ass at paperwork and organization. It hasn't come up yet, but... he kind of struggles to read. Albinos tend to have poor vision. And the ocean doesn't read. So like, he knows what things say, but he doesn't usually actually read them. Somehow NOBODY has noticed this because he's still capable of understanding what's written. Mito is running experiments on him when she finds out

Hikaku really is the big brain cell amongst the founders, huh? I'm cackling about it. Tobirama probably helps by accident purely because he's VERY curious about what humans need to build a city so he's always like, interogating people on it. Hikaku is the only one who can give him straight answers on how shit is supposed to work. Then Tobirama draws these absolutely obscure and ominous "blueprints" that have to be translated back to something normal people can fucking read. They're very helpful and useful! Just... kind of gives you a nosebleed if you try to read the original copy

Hikaku is begging Mito for a Tobirama to normal dictionary. She's just like "Don't you think I'd be using one if I had one by now"

I think Hikaku saw Tobirama during the peace talks where he was ominously hovering behind his brothers and was like "Wow he's pretty. No, bad Hikaku, that's a spirit." But then during the creation of the village Hikaku ended up the Main Braincell by default so he interacted with all the founders a LOT. Including a very curious and clueless Tobirama who eventually starts showing him these really good city planning blueprints that give you an instant migraine to look at.

Tobirama is a FAST learner, when he cares to learn something. And this village is Hashirama and Itama's dream so he has plenty of motivation to learn how cities and buildings work. Just... takes him a bit to get there. And Hikaku is now the Founding Brain Cell along with the resident Eldritch Blueprint Translator, somehow.

Tobirama’s clear intelligence and enthusiasm were what made Hikaku go from "can't be horny for the ocean" to "i wanna seduce that"

So, you know that one type of fic that's like "Tobirama sleeps Madara in an attempt to calm him the fuck down / give him something to focus on / tie him to the village so he will be less likely to leave or self destruct" ?

Ok so THAT. but now throw Hikaku in there to help. They are teaming up to try and tie Madara down before he doom spirals

Ok so. Hikaku and Tobirama talk about how they're worried about Madara's looming self implosion / mental state

Tobirama is like "don't worry, I'll take care of this."

And Hikaku is kinda press x to doubt but also kinda "alright, good luck"

Only for a couple days later Madara to seem to calm down / have become dramatically more smug and peaceful.

So, yk, Hikaku is like "woah, Senju-sama what did you do? Whatever it was, keep it up, this is wonderful I haven't seen him so level in months."

And Tobirama is like "Hmm. Yes. Letting him have his way with me certainly did seem to help calm him, didn't it?"

And Hikaku is like record scratch car crash noises "letting him WHAT."

So Tobirama explains that yeah, he let Madara fuck him. A lot. Also he would NOT shut up during it, which Tobirama also just kind of let happen which also seemed to help...? Double time therapy, I guess

And Hikaku is like. Head in his hands. If it works it works...? He guesses...? Oh my god he wish he didn't know this tho

BUT THEN.

Tobirama is gone for a week on a mission, and Madara is looking pretty bad. Like, sharp decline, he is in a bad way. And Hikaku, panicking, is like "oh fuck what would Tobirama do" and then ends up throwing himself at Madara out of desperation

It works !! Surprisingly well !! There were a couple hiccups at first maybe, but Madara and Tobirama were never exclusive or anything (and Madara might have partially agreed out of spite for Tobirama)

Madara calms down, Hikaku is left with his head spinning and very "fuckkkkk ok, too late to back out now. It worked, we are commiting"

Tobirama comes back and is pleased, less work for him. Good job Hikaku, he knew u were a real one

Now, this is purely tactical for Tobirama (at that point) it's a strategic fuck to calm Madara down, with a bonus of usually being good for him.

So he is pleasantly surprised Hikaku backed him up. He would have thought Hikaku might try and find someone else to throw at Madara, the fact he would sacrifice himself only further proves his loyalty to the village in his eyes

Hikaku one of the real ones fr, Tobirama's trust and respect in him is on the rise

Hikaku still has his head in his hands as he digests the fact this is his life now

Meanehile: In Madara's little world, rhe senju bastard AND his hot most loyal man in the world are throwing themselves at him. He is convinced he's winning.

And like, he is, to be fair. But only because of the mental illness

Madara is sitting around creating convoluted soap opera plot lines for the three of them in his head.

Like, he's imagining Hikaku and Tobirama office cat fighting over him, one of them getting jealous over the other, competing for his attention and affection. Two of Konoha's most powerful, well respected, high ranking shinobi... and they are fighting over Madara... he's so back..

Meanwhile Tobirama and Hikaku are telling eachother ab their recent Madara interactions and going "oh good, that should keep him calm for a few days" and nodding at eachother like "we are in this mess together, my brother in arms"

So, Madara ends up noticing the vibes in that corner and then he possibly ends up getting jealous of them spending too much time alone together (they are strategizing on what to do with/to him next) and gets even more pouty and mad even after they fuck, because "I bet this bitch was thinking about Tobirama/Hikaku the whole time >:(

(Meanwhile, Madara was the one thinking about the other the whole time. Mostly in the context of them joining them)

He finally snaps and rejects one of Tobirama's advances while saying something stupid shit like "why don't u just go sleep with HIKAKU, since I know thats where you REALLY wanna be. You think I haven't noticed you sneaking around with him, huh? Huh? Whore."

And Tobirama is like "are we seriously doing this now? Is this seriously what we are doing? Ok."

And Tobirama and Hikaku now have to strategize to come on to Madara TOGETHER or smthn, or at minimum put on some sort of production to feed into his sudden insecurities so they can guide him out of them

Madara meanwhile remains suspiciously fixated on the idea of them sleeping together (without him!!!! How dare they!!!!)

All of that is to say:

Tobirama and Hikaku end up sleeping together for Madara and having to put on a big show of it just to make Madara feel like he still has the power here.

Tobirama is largely indifferent to this turn of events, Hikaku remains "oh my god how is this my fucking life" but also "well. It's for the greater good, I guess. Not like it's a horrible fate for me."

So anyways: Hikaku and Tobirama alliance to try and calm Madara the fuck down via fucking and letting him fuck them. Pass it on.

"Did you need something?" Tobirama asked, glaring at his beta-mate as if he was the last person he wanted to see. It might've hurt him a little. I think it's so charming how rarepairs and other micro fandom spaces sometimes have a high amount of One Specific Niche Thing. Like (as of a few months ago) the Uchiha Hikaku/Senju Tobirama ship on ao3 is 23% omegaverse (17 / 74). That's so much omegaverse lol.

I did some further calculations and despite the Hikaku/Tobirama ship only being 0.047% of all naruto fanfics, omegaverse Hikaku/Tobirama is 0.44% of all omegaverse naruto fanfics.

BTS, which is the fandom with the highest amount of omegaverse is 8.7% omegaverse. BNHA which has the second highest amount of omegaverse fanfic is 4.1%. Supernatural which has the third highest amount of omegaverse fanfic is 2.89% omegaverse.

Despite being about werewolves, Tean Wolf's fanfic is only 2.7% omegaverse.

Destiel is only 4.3% omegaverse.

None of these popular spaces have even double digit percentages of omegaverse and Hikaku/Tobirama is 23%!!!!!!!!! That's so interesting.

I don't think I've seen such a high percentage of omegaverse fic in my life. If yall know of any ships or tags or such that have a high percentage of omegaverse fic please let me know.

Otherwise if there's any other specific micro fandom spaces that have hyper specific kinks/tropes/things like that that you'd like to mention please tell me about it this is so interesting!!!

somehow, now i have a lot of tobi/hikaku thoughts? like jesus christ this is halfway to a fic outline so i might as well add it onto my endless list of things to write. so uh:

In the early days of the village Tobirama and Hikaku quickly come to realize that the other is one of the only others around who will just buckle down and Do Their Fucking Job without causing a bunch of unneeded drama. They start to see the other as dependable and even though they have their prejudices they’re both willing to hear the other out on things without immediately starting arguments (unlike Tobi with SOME people). Tobirama maybe even fully admits that he has trouble fully trusting the peace/the Uchiha, but  Hikaku finds that when he takes the time to explain the logic of why the Uchiha do things the way they do.Tobirama is able to accept them and start to move past it. (Hikaku also probably spends a lot of time carefully bringing up Tobirama’s ideas to Madara in a way that makes him think HE thought of them, just so they actually get done). So they work together a lot and end up being like. Office buddies with a pretty big mutual respect, and as time goes on they just become full out friends going out for drinks after work etc etc.

Hikaku slowly becomes a victim of the dangerous+pretty+competent problem Tobirama poses and starts catching feelings. Like he ends up pining and ANNOYED that he’s pining because not only is this not his first time w/ a stupid unrequited crush (Madara and/or Izuna take your pick) he knows that even IF his feelings were returned actually doing anything about them would be a huge political nightmare. He’s got this feeling of maybe being a little inferior -- he’s a good shinobi, sure, but he doesn’t hold a flame to Madara/Izuna/Hashirama/Tobirama when it comes down to it. A lot of his best skills are in like, logistics, not decimating the battlefield (which Tobirama likes quite a lot actually cough cough). He’d have to do something crazy to attract someone like Tobirama’s attention (which during the war was actually a good thing!!)

Tobirama meanwhile is in denial that they are even friends for a while, but I think when he realizes that they are (the catalyst probably being like. Hikaku just does something Nice for him b/c he’s a nice guy. Which no one really does for him! but Hikaku did!) he dives straight from ‘oh we are friends’ to ‘oh i’m kind of in love with him’ and then gets PISSED at himself, because surely he’s not the kind of person who will just fall for the first person who is kind of nice to him?? It takes him a while to work through his feelings. But in the end Hikaku is someone who he respects a great deal which is why that act of kindness mattered so much to him in the first place.

I’ve got no idea how the confession happens. tobirama is probably really straightforward about it (or god, maybe hes like “you’ve always been good at explaining things so riddle me THIS why do i like you so much??” and he is genuinely asking). From there like you could go “they both know they like each other but because the Uchiha as a Whole still hate tobirama there’s nothing they can do it about it and it sucks” (and if this is in a more canon compliant situation. good lord but tobirama as the hokage and hes in love with Hikaku and this is their best chance to do something about it and they STILL can’t) or you could have the Very Funny Scene of Tobirama trying to figure out Uchiha courting customs + what the fuck he has to do to convince Madara to allow him to try them.

(also as a bonus thought. Hikaku developing his mangeko bc of tobirama dying/almost dying thank you for your time)

and FURTHERMORE I also had thoughts about tobirama/hikaku/madara vis a vis tobirama/hikaku ending up in a relationship.

ver 1 is like -- he allows tobirama to court hikaku but he DOES NOT trust itand keeps inserting himself into the entire process, and in the end tobirama and Hikaku are kind of powerless to really stop him? from doing that. Madara is so mad that they’re actually kind of romantic with each other?? But also somehow in the process he ends up endearing himself to tobirama by being cringefail (and Hikaku already liked him on the dl) They end up bringing him into the relationship before he even realizes he wants to be in it.

ver 2 is Tobirama and Hikaku ending up married and like. Domestic and happy much to literally everyone’s surprise. Madara wants that SO BADLY that he keeps going to all the married people he knows just to get a mere hint of it. But Hashirama sees him as a good friend/brother, and Izuna, whatever the hell is going on with him, is his actual brother and doesn’t see much weird with Madara wanting to hang out with him, even if him wanting to hang out with him and his S/O specifically all the time is a little weird.

But Tobirama and Hikaku are Not Related to him and draw very different conclusions about what he wants to get out of spending time with them. I think Tobirama maybe relates to Madara a little more than he wants to here because he, too, was desperate for intimacy before he had it, and Madara must be down BAD if he’s willing to spend time with Tobirama. Which, he is, but I think Madara saw how happy they ended up -- reverse relating to Tobirama bc he saw how Tobirama was before and how he is NOW, and decided ‘they can fix me.’

Now I'm on the train of contemplating how eldritch Tobirama reacts to Hikaku courting him. Honestly it's a huge mixture of confusion and flattery. He's not sure what's going on but sure! He likes it. Asks Hikaku questions about *everything* during the whole process. "Is this typical courting behavior or your specific preference? What other methods might one employ? Is it necessary to reciprocate? How do I do so?"

Hikaku is doing his best to be accurate and factual and not judge the spirit for not knowing these things. He DOES judge Tobirama’s clan for not teaching him them though lmao. Hashirama gets a lot of deadpan looks.

I should also mention that Izuna and Kawarama team up to fight for Tobirama's honor. Kawarama with amusement and Izuna with complete sincerity. That is Izuna's BEST FRIEND you fucker. Be so nicies or Izuna will fill your house with hyperrealistic genjutsu bees. Kawarama just knows how much fun Tobirama is having so he doesn't really mind, but he's still going along with the shovel talk because that IS his brother

Tobirama starts out really bad about giving gifts back but becomes like, really good really fast because he can tell exactly how much Hikaku likes things. Unfortunately he does end up giving very ominous gifts sometimes. "I made you a seal on a necklace. Wear it and you should never have nose bleeds from... well." "What does that mean" "Just wear it <3" "aight"
