Heavily inspired by/art from the game Creepydates on itch.io. It's a very fun game, I recommend!
Y/N groaned softly. Their head was pounding, and their limbs and back hurt so badly that they almost felt numb.
They slowly forced their eyes open, and realized very, very quickly that the pain in their back wasn't random - it was because they were laying on the hard ground, staring up at the night sky through a canopy of leaves. The night was clear, and the air smelled like spring. The trees swayed slowly as a gentle breeze blew through.
Despite the calmness in the environment, Y/N was panicking.
They didn't know where they were. The last thing they remembered was getting ready for bed. They didn't even remember laying down… yet, they had somehow fallen asleep.
They slowly forced their body to move, dragging themself off of the ground and into a sitting position. They looked around slowly.
The woods were dark, nearly pitch black. They felt fear shoot through their chest. They must be dreaming. Yes, that was it. After all, what other explanation did they have?
They slowly got to their feet, their legs nearly giving out for a moment. They had to steady themself on a tree, but when they touched it, they didn't feel the rough bark against their palm. Instead, it felt smooth. They slowly turned their gaze to the tree, and froze.
There was a piece of paper on the tree. It was old lined notebook paper, with ‘HELP ME’ written in big, scratchy letters, underlined - for emphasis, Y/N supposed.
They couldn't help but smile a little, then laugh. It was unsteady and nervous, as if they were suddenly hyper-aware.
“Okay… no need to panic…” they mumbled to themself. “It's a dream. A horrible dream where.. you just found one of the Eight Pages chilling on a tree… in the middle of the darkest forest you've ever seen…” they pulled the page off of the tree, staring down at it for a second.. before folding it neatly and putting it in the pocket of their pajama pants.
As if something had been waiting for that exact moment, they heard footsteps.
Slow, deliberate footsteps.
“...hello??” They called out, before taking a deep, slow breath. They leaned down, picking up a particularly large rock, and began to walk quickly in the opposite direction of the footsteps.
They followed. But never seemed to get closer or faster… or slower. Whoever was following Y/N was matching their pace. Intentionally staying a particular distance behind them. For whatever reason, they didn't turn around. Didn't run. They just walked.
Eventually, they noticed something - another piece of paper. They squinted, just to make sure they were right, before rushing forward, heading towards it.
It was a page with “NO” written all over it. They slowly reached up, pulling it off of the tree. They stared down at it with shaky hands, then took a deep breath, folding it and putting it in their pocket with the other one.
A cold breeze blew through, causing the hair on the back of their neck to stand on end. They shuddered, turning to look in every direction, including the direction that the footsteps had been coming from - they'd stopped now. As if whoever was there was waiting. Watching.
They shivered at the thought, and took a deep breath, before they continued walking.
It felt like they'd been going for hours. Their legs were numb, and their feet hurt. But still, they kept going. And still, the footsteps continued. Even more concerning, Y/N had found five more pages. That meant there was one left. And they were afraid of what would happen when they found the eighth.
Y/N didn't know what kind of nightmare this was, but they wanted it to end.
They closed their eyes, and slowly let out a shaky breath. This was just a dream. A horrible, horrible, vividly realistic dream.
They opened their eyes, and finally looked around themself.. until they spotted it. A small dot of light. Off in the distance.
They felt their heart leap, and began running in that direction. Ignoring the sticks and rocks that poked through their house slippers.
They burst through the trees, and froze.
The light, a soft orange glow, was coming from an old, decrepit mansion. The windows were all lit, all with the same orange lighting.
The yard was unkept and overgrown, and vines grew along the exterior. Y/N noticed something on the front door - the final page.
CAN'T RUN.
They stepped back, towards the woods, only to bump into something solid. They froze. They hadn't just been standing next to a tree. Not that they could remember. And this? This didn't feel like a tree.
They turned slowly, and felt their heart drop to their stomach.
A tall figure, wearing a tan jacket over a flannel, and blue jeans.. and instead of showing his face, he had on a white mask, with dark, soulless eyes, and black lips.
‘No fucking way.’
They stepped back, closer to the mansion, but it was too late. They felt hands grab their arms roughly, and shove them to the ground. Their head hit the hard dirt, and they felt dizzy for a moment.
Then, they heard someone talking.
“You pushed them too hard…”
“Was I supposed to push them gently?”
“Why would you push them to begin with??” Y/N could hardly tell what they were seeing, but they'd recognize that yellow jacket anywhere.
“We need to disorient them, don't we??”
They felt someone grab their wrist, and tug them up. They tried to fight at first, but their head was still spinning, their vision swirling.
They felt another set of hands grab their other wrist, and together, Masky and Hoodie pulled them to their feet.
Y/N fought. They struggled, finally regaining their ability to focus.
“Hey- stop! Let go!”
They tried and tried, but it was two against one, and Y/N was no match.
The two dragged them to the door, and Masky opened it up. The moment he did, a blast of warm air hit Y/N in the face. They let out a shout when Masky and Hoodie shoved them inside, then promptly shut the door. Moments later, a paper slid under the door.
CAN'T RUN
They shivered, and walked over to it, picking it up and reading it, before folding it with the rest. Maybe they'd need it.
They turned to face the interior of the mansion, looking around for a moment.
The door opened up into a living room - one that Y/N suspected would have been beautiful if it wasn't so messy and run-down. There were scribbles all over the walls, and newspapers and notebook papers plastered where the scribbles didn't cover.
The floors were hardwood, and an old rug rested under a dark wooden coffee table. A large black sofa sat off to the side, facing an incredibly large, yet old-looking TV. It was on, with nothing but static on the screen. An old Nintendo sat on the floor, plugged into the tv. There were games all around it, scattered on the floor.
Y/N approached quietly, kneeling to look at the game titles, but before they could read even a single word, a hand slammed against the glass of the tv.. from inside. Y/N screamed, scrambling backwards.
There, in the TV screen, was a familiar-looking figure with blonde hair, dark eyes, and a Young Link costume. Blood dripped from his eyes down his face. He had a frown on his face, and was glaring daggers at them.
“Don't. Touch. Anything.”
His voice was low and menacing, and he tilted his head to the side, looking them up and down.. before scoffing softly. “We could do better.”
“What?”
“Don’t worry about it.” Ben’s frown twisted into a sick grin. “You’ll see.”
And with that, the TV screen shut off. Y/N took a shaky breath, and slowly got to their feet.
“Okay… definitely a weird dream.” They whispered. They stepped back, and turned away, looking around the room once again.
After a moment of debate, they made their way over to the far wall, the one covered in newspapers and old lined notebook papers. They leaned in to look, scanning the pages.
Each of the newspapers had the same theme - missing people. Missing children, missing adults… people who had murdered others, and then mysteriously vanished. Teenagers disappearing and then being spotted committing horrible crimes.
One particular newspaper caught Y/N’s attention, and they slowly leaned closer to look.
This newspaper had their name on it.
With shaky hands, they slowly reached up, and grabbed the paper from the wall. They tugged it, and it came off in their hand. They read it closer.
‘...young adult Y/N L/N has been reported missing, as of October 20th, 20XX. They were last seen on CCTV cameras entering their apartment building late at night…’
Y/N’s heart picked up, and they read and re-read the paper, over and over and over. They couldn't think clearly, other than one sentence:
Had they really been kidnapped??
They shook their head. No, this was a dream. A horrible, vivid nightmare… about the Slendermansion.
They placed the page on the coffee table in the middle of the floor, their hands trembling. They had fully convinced themself it was a dream. But that was changing the longer this lasted.
They made their way out of the room, and into a hallway, which had multiple doors on each side, with signs marking what the rooms were. At the end of the hall was a staircase.
Y/N took a slow, deep breath, and began walking down the hall.
The floorboards creaked under their feet, and their heart thumped loudly in their ears as they read the signs on the doors.

They made their way towards the stairs… but as they neared them, they heard footsteps. They stepped back, fear shooting through their chest.
‘Shit!’
They looked around, and for a moment, thought about going back to the living room.. but they weren't sure if Ben would give them away or not. Or if these people would be going into that room..
It was too late. Before Y/N had made a decision, they were face-to-face with a tall, familiar stranger.. with brown hair, dark eyes, and a mask over the bottom half of his face.
“O-Oh..” Toby tilted his head, blinking. “You're here today? That's- ack..!” He twitched, his head snapping to the side as he made a strange noise. As if it hadn't even happened, though, he continued speaking. “...that's early.”
“...” Y/N opened their mouth to try and speak, but nothing came out. They were definitely dreaming. They had to be. Ticci Toby was standing in front of them, their favorite character, just- there.
He tilted his head at them, and his hand twitched, before he stepped closer. “You know that this means? It means I gotta ch-chase you.”
“What…?”
“Oh, yeah. You get five minutes to go and find a place to hide. Think of it like a g-game… but if I catch you…”
He tilted his head to the side, his eyes squinting slightly to reveal he was smiling under the mask.
“...I get to kill you.”
__________
Y/N was trembling, running as fast as they could down the halls of the manor. They were being loud, gasping for breath as their house slippers slammed against the hardwood floors. They were freaking out. Were they really about to die?? At the hands of a fucking proxy?
This couldn’t be real. But it felt real. Too real. They couldn’t think anything but one sentence:
I need to hide.
They eventually found a semi-open door, and quickly ducked into the pitch black room, leaving the door open the same/a similar amount. They leaned back behind the door, out of the beam of light that trickled into the room. They covered their mouth with their hands, their breathing shaky and ragged. After what felt like hours of sitting there, they heard it - footsteps. Slow, steady, intentional footsteps. Coming directly towards their location. They had to fight back the soft sob that threatened to escape their lips. This was it. Their final moments. They still silently prayed and hoped that they were just dreaming - a dream turned nightmare.
The footsteps stopped, just outside the door. Y/N held their breath, squeezing their eyes shut as tears streamed down their face. They were more than certain that they were going to die… until Toby continued walking, methodically stopping by each door to loudly shove it open. Each time he did, they gasped softly, their heart jumping. They were practically hyperventilating, terror coursing through their body and making them numb. They felt pins and needles all over their body, making it feel impossible to move. They were trapped. In the god damn slendermansion. They felt like they were insane. They almost wanted to laugh, if not for the pure horror that overtook them.
For what felt like another few hours, but must’ve only been a few minutes, Y/N listened to Toby inspect each room, before he wandered his way back over to the room they were in. They heard him laugh, the sound sending a chill down their spine.
“Knock knock…
The door pushed fully open, and Y/N pressed closer to the wall. It nearly hit them, but stopped just before it did.
He walked further into the room. His shadow poured into the room, and even just with his outline, Y/N could see he was fit. Obviously he would be, they thought. He swung around two fucking hatchets. One in each hand. They imagined that it wasn't exactly something they could do.
It took them a moment to realize that they’d almost forgotten about the life-or-death situation that they were in.
“You’re in here… I know you are. Because this hall leads to a dead end. And this is the only room I didn’t thoroughly inspect. You wanna know why I didn’t come all the way in here?”
Toby stepped further into the room, and the door slammed shut behind him. He didn’t even flinch. Overhead lights turned on, illuminating the room in the same soft orange glow that covered the rest of the house. It revealed that the room was some sort of office, with a red carpet, red chairs in front of a deep brown desk, and red curtains. All with deep brown/almost black walls. And, sitting at the desk in the room, was a tall, pale, faceless figure in a suit.
Slenderman.
“Holy sh-”
“Shhhhh!” Toby put a finger to his lips. “N-No cursing in front of the f-FUCKING- …boss.” He looked slightly embarrassed about his tic, and looked back at Slenderman to see its reaction. It seemed entirely unphased by the tic, instead waving Toby away with itshand. “Thank you. Now, if you would please, I’d like to have a chat with our guest. You can wait outside the door. I’ll call you in when we’re done.”
“N-No problem, Boss.” Toby nodded, though he looked… almost like he was disappointed. He quietly left the room, though he made eye contact as he passed Y/N. They looked down at the carpeted floor, and he closed the door behind himself.
“I-”
“Do not speak.” Slenderman interrupted them, and they quickly shut their mouth. It continued to speak once they were quiet.
“I’ve had my eye on you for a… long time.”
Y/N swallowed nervously How long was that exactly?
“I must say, I’m not exactly impressed, but you did manage to survive. Had you not picked my office, you would have been killed. However, I’m sure it was purely an accident. After all, you didn’t even know I was here.”
“I just-”
“Do not interrupt me.”
Y/N nodded quickly. Slenderman continued.
“Despite this, I’ve decided that you’ve passed the test - welcome to your new life.”
“My new what?”
The moment Y/n even opened their mouth to speak, a black tentacle wrapped around their wrist, yanking them up and off of the floor, and pulling them over to the desk. Slenderman grabbed their shoulders, yanking them up to its “face”.
“What did I tell you?”
Y/N felt their mouth go dry. They felt like throwing up from the nerves.
“Well?”
“I- I’m sorry, I just-”
“Answer my question, Y/N.”
“You… You told me not to interrupt you..”
“And what did you just do?” Slender’s voice was harsh.
“...I interrupted you,” they choked out.
“And you’re…?”
Y/N took a deep breath, their heart pounding in their ears. Their vision was slightly blurry, their mind felt foggy.
“...I”m really sorry, Sir..”
They swore for a second that they could hear static.
And then it released them.
“...Your new life. That’s what I said. Starting now, you work under me. You’ll do what I need you to, and in return, you’ll be treated well. Live as you want, as long as you continue to do as I instruct. If I call on you, you answer. If I dismiss you, you leave. You do not disrespect me. You do not ignore me. Starting now, you are mine. Understood?”
“I… You want me to be your-”
“Proxy, as Nina and you like to put it, yes… though, Nina isn’t one of them.”
Y/N felt their head begin to spin. Slenderman itself wanted them to be his proxy. They couldn’t think right for a moment. Finally, they gave a slow nod.
