There has been a shit ton of hate going around after Wade posted again, clearing up the three different versions of Toby. I've seen a lot of people speak about it and wanted to speak up, too.
!! FIRST: !! This is all my opinion and what realistically/psychologically would make the most sense. I do not see how he would be abusive! Do not take this the wrong way and read the full thing before judging. I see where Wade is coming from with all of the current 'drama', but again, I don't see how Toby would actually be abusive. If you don't agree with me, that's okay. But hatred is not a way to "fight it".
Also I don't read comments so if anyone tries arguing with me, I won't see it ... nor would care lol
Why was he suddenly turned into an abuser?
I don't even know where to start, so I'll jump right in. From all of the recent writing I've seen, it is very obvious Wade is expressing his harted towards Toby, which I can't judge him for. He's been through hell and back, dealing with endless harassment, death and rape threats on a daily basis, and that since he was what, 13-14? Which is insane. A decade of pure hatred over creating a character, mind you.
Maybe he wants to make Toby unlikable, so people finally leave him alone & stop using him as much, considering they romanticize serial killers and turned Toby into a "shy twink thats edgy and depends on [any other crp hes shipped with]". I'm not saying it's wrong to headcanon him as shy or anything, it's just what people turned him into in general - Innocent. I wouldn't want my vent & serial killer OC to be turned into an innocent puppy that wouldn't harm a fly, either.
Missing Depth:
From the newer versions, Toby's soft side is missing, in my opinion. The one that makes him human and got so many people attached to him. He has a tragic backstory and carries a lot of depth/emotion. From the conversations I had with Wade, I can only assume he took that side away due to, once again, hatred towards the character. A character he created to express himself with that has been ripped away from him. Since seemingly that soft side is missing in Wade's eyes, he turned Toby even colder, even more sadistic and even more selfish.
His intentions were never to romanticize abuse nor to turn Toby into someone that beats his partner or anything - He wanted people to understand that Toby's a horrible person. Since him being a serial killer, sociopath and sadist clearly didn't help, maybe he added the abuse part as an "emergency solution", desperate hopes of making others understand.
And before anyone jumps me for putting the word sociopath in there, I'm diagnosed with it myself. I don't have experience with romantic relationships, but plantonic ones are already very hard to keep, so I know that romantic/sexual ones will be an even bigger struggle for sociopaths, sadly.
From what he told me when I asked about how Toby is in relationships, he mentioned Toby wouldn't necessarily be physically abusive (Which I would've never assumed anyway LOL). I think it's important to mention that, since physical abuse is the first thing people think of when that word gets dropped on them. NOT saying the other types of abuse aren't as bad: THEY ARE. Any type of abuse is horrible.
Why he wouldn't be abusive in my opinion:
I can see how Toby would be a terrible boyfriend; He lacks empathy, he's selfish, he's sadistic, craves dominance and constantly needs his fragile ego to be stroked. But abuse is a strong word for him. Toxic, ya. Intentionally abusive, no. He wouldn't harm anyone he's fond of. He was highly protective over his sister & mother and lived as an literal punching bag for YEARS just to keep them save. Not to mention that even possessed under Slenderman, he still tried to refuse when it came to killing his father. The person he hated with a passion and would never ever want to be like.
Past relationships:
He would 100% need to learn how to keep a relationship healthy, needs a LOT of reassurance and communication - so the first few weeks of him getting into a relationship might be rough. He's a stubborn bastard. Toby would most likely try to be tender (as much as he can, at least) in his own way. So, still shitty but willing to adapt.
He used to be canonically in a healthy relationship with Clockwork, too, so why would he realistically suddenly switch into an abuser? Again, it's most likely a desperate attempt of getting people to drop Toby & expressing his own hatred towards him. In ways that don't make sense. Toby was touchy, caring and sweet, which still suits his character to this day, in my eyes.
Little side note to TicciWork; NOT an appreciated ship lol. It's a victims vent oc x the predators oc. The ship started irking me out once I found out about Clockworks creator being a rapist. I would never ship a rapists & pedophiles OC x a victim's OC, it's morally wrong and fucked up in so many ways. Imagine going online and seeing your trauma OC being shipped with a horrible person's self insert.
Back to Toby; He is canonically caring of fond ones. Still sadistic, until their wounded in a serious way. Then, even Toby takes em serious. That proves against the abuse part, too.
Canon or Not?
Now please note, the abuse part is only in WADE'S AU! It is not necessarily canon! It's the version he has in his head, that's it. He never pushed it onto someone or tried to get people to make Toby abusive. In fact, he mentioned Toby not being a rapist or someone who physically hurts his partner on DA. So no, it's not canon. You do not have to use the abuse part or be reminded of it when thinking of Toby.
Main problem:
The main problem with Toby being abusive is younger fans that ship their OC with Toby hearing about it. They might think it's normal, or worse, romanticize it & get abused in their future. HOWEVER: This is the CREEPYPASTA FANDOM. They (the characters) are all fucked up in the head. They are murderers and evil shits, roughly said. No one young enough to think "abuse = good" should be in this fandom or on the internet in general. Not talking about people that have been abused and genuinely don't know what abuse even is. It is the parents duty to take care and watch over their children. Control what media they consume. Kids should not be in this type of fandom. I used to know someone that developed an literal gore addiction because of it.
Yes, a lot of people are attached to Toby and don't want to view him as an abuser, so I can only repeat: It's not canon. He's not an abuser. His old versions have been the opposite of an abuser and it's only in Wade's AU, which he doesn't even work on or expand. He's not in the fandom anymore.
What I do see is Wade being upset with people calling him "boyfriend material" or turn him into a fetishized yaoi sex character. Nothing against male x male ships, it's just people fetishizing gay relationships to get off to them, which is disgusting. Another leak hole of where his hatred came from.
Is all of this worth harassing Kastoway? NO. It's not. HIS OWN AU is HIS OWN AU. People literally asked him to share it. Pressured and forced, even. Do NOT harass Wade over a creation he clearly wants nothing to do with. Stick to your own headcanons, respect his boundaries and boom, life goes on.
In my AU, Blood Of Salvation, Toby isn't abusive. He struggles and doesn't want to empathize with people, except with fond ones. He would be unaware of how toxic he is at first, but communication and someone willing to help him heal changes that. So no to the abusive part, just a fragile dumbass with a high ego that needs to learn how relationships work due to his lack of experience. This is me trying to keep him as canon as possible & adjusting him a bit to my liking.
Another sidenote: when I call myself "irl ticci toby", I EXCLUDE the abuse and murder part!
This fandom is dying out anyway, so is Tumblr, so I don't get why people bother hating on creations they don't need to use. Stick with whatever you view Toby as, as long as it doesn't go against boundaries. After all, it's still someone's vent character.
Sorry if this is messy, I just started yapping and typing out my thoughts without caring about some order or organizing it.
I might edit it, but very very roughly said: I don't agree with the abuse part, see where Wade is coming from and think all of the harassment is fucking stupid
So this has been bothering me for a while now when it comes to people writing Ticci Toby and his CIPA—specifically the smut writers.
Toby can still feel pleasure. I’m tired of the misinformation about his condition writing/saying he can’t.
And to the other authors writing his character, please know that he can still feel pressure and texture (e.g. gentle touching, hugging, sexual stimulation) they can all still be perceived as pleasurable.
So yes, Toby can feel touch (as long as it’s gentle and not too much to cause him pain). CIPA doesn’t mean he can’t feel anything—it just means he cannot feel pain, ofc, can’t feel temperature, can’t sweat, etc.
So please do ur research and make sure not to spread misinformation before writing about his character and disorders!!
