should be no surprise that a show that's been running as long as Doctor Who has will recycle plots from time to time but it's funny to me that the NuWho era has had two stories where:
the previous episode starts out looking like some spooky monster of the week kind of story but a random plot twist at the end suddenly sets up this episode, which...
is the first of a two-parter. The Doctor and his companion travel to a site where top representatives of Earth confront an invading alien force, are ultimately murdered, and the alien force then holds the Doctor hostage and sets up a totalitarian regime over the planet while the companion flees
many months later the companion is arrested by the alien regime and brought to their headquarters, where she ends up defeating them through the use of a specific concentrated thought that psychically disrupts their grasp on power and frees the world
at the end the world gets retconned so only the few people directly involved at the scene of the final uprising actually remember it happening
the ultimate kicker: not only did this exact plotline happen twice in NuWho, but it also happened with two separate Doctors played by Scottish actors AND two separate companions played by black women
