I’ve been watching a lot of Gruen lately and I think one of my favourite things about this show is how much it values disagreement. Like, particularly between Todd and Russel as the two regular panel members. You always get at least two opinions, if not four, that are completely opposing on the same item. And all these panelists are always experts in the field, and are never diminished for disagreeing. And no one’s opinion is devalued for disagreeing.

Like, Todd and Russel disagree so much that them agreeing on ANYTHING is a novelty that makes the whole audience and panel lose their minds every time — including myself.

It’s just so refreshing watching people whole-heartedly and often polarisingly disagree with each other and then smile and shake hands at the end with no love or respect lost while Will Anderson sits in between them all downing Garnier hair drink like it’s a sport.

Also, Russel (my emotional support middle-aged straight white man) ranting about AI as an insidious and dangerous threat to democracy is so *chefs kiss*. And then in the next moment saying the ‘go full Speedo’ add is an artistic revelation and hopes it’s powerful enough to change Australian culture. This show is a masterpiece and I love it.

Went online in a spare moment to quell the rising and uncharacteristic celebrity crush that has become Todd Sampson. Ha. Only to discover he’s actually more interesting than I thought, has the exact wolf image tattoo I wanted as a kid (and am glad I don’t have for so many reasons but still), called one of his two daughters one of the two reasonably rare names I always thought I’d theoretically call my own child, has a mountain climber’s body beneath the t-shirts for world-savin’/brain maintaining/Mt Everest shinning and, left his Leo Burnett position to do start-ups. I’m quite sure he’s often a knob and there’s no coincidence behind the fact that we all love him and he’s an media-savvy advertising mogul (read: self-promotion genius) but still, it’s fun that people like that exist. Stuff is happening in Life but this felt more important to type out. Now to the real things such as dishes, cats, showers and plant-watering. Good morning world...
