I’ve been watching the collective crash out that’s been surrounding Jikook lately. Gleeful/delusional people celebrating imaginary things. Grasping shippers claiming confirmation over songs and phone cases. Insecure jkkrs wringing hands and looking to others to alleviate their fears. My GOODNESS.
Narrative: The Absence of Jikook means “something”.
Well, this is just silly. We’ve had Jikook “droughts”. many, many times in the past, only for them to later tell (or show) us that they’d been together the whole time.
During Solo Era (when Jimin was toiling away on his albums), Tkkrs were saying that Jikook never spent time together anymore because they hated each other and they were no longer being forced by the company. <insert massive 🙄 here> The cult was celebrating the first taekook interactions they’d had in years as evidence that Taekook were married. <insert another 🙄 for good measure>. Shippers were linking Jungkook with every female within spitting distance, and insecure Jkkrs were just anxiously questioning everything. But once Jimin was out of Song Camp Prison, Jikook proved all these narratives to be untrue. They showed up in each other’s lives when they could, sometimes quite infamously I might add (“Jimin hyung can handle it…yeah”). Oh, and let’s not forget JK’s “Jimin, Jimin, Jimin” era. Finally (don’t you love that word? JK does…), we had Jimin and his thoroughly waxed legs hopping on a plane to support Jungkook. They were spotted out and about in NYC, and then again in Connecticut. Later, Tae shared a photo of them all together in Jeju. Rumors surfaced, saying that Jikook had been seen together in Japan and covertly shot airport videos popped up as well. As we now know, these trips resulted in AYS!? And let’s be clear, we only got a fraction of the time they ACTUALLY spent together during those trip on camera. Jikook never posted/showed up together on social media during these trips, yet we know they WERE together. And of course, none of these on camera moments happened in a vacuum. Jikook obviously, talked, hung out, and planned in between them. For example, when Jimin casually confirmed on AYS?! that he spent the night with Jungkook before traveling the next day. Eh hmm. So, the “absence” of Jikook during this period of time really didn’t mean anything, did it?
Side note: We know it is true that Jikook didn’t get to spend as much time as they were used to during the beginning of Solo Era. Jimin was fighting for his life while creating and promoting his albums and Jungkook was clearly very bothered by their time apart. We had him begging, time and time again, for Jimin to join him. And when they finally were able to spend uninterrupted quality time together, Jungkook pouted and said FINALLY. Like, that “finally” was heard around the world!
I feel like I’m forgetting something……oh yeah. After all of that. After all of the naysayers and haters who insisted that Jikook hated each other or just “weren’t that close”…Jikook enlisted together. That was the ultimate Jikook karma. They chose to be together every single day for 18 months. Sharing a dorm, sharing vacations, sharing their trials and tribulations and dreams with each other. Boom. Oh, people tried to pretend like it was no big deal. They desperately tired to make it all disappear by saying Jimin and Jungkook weren’t really in the same unit, didn’t share a dorm, never took leave together, etc. But once again, Jikook debunked it all by mentioning each other on Weverse, by being seen together during leave, by littering all of SK with autographs given together, by sending congratulatory flowers together, and on and on. The debunking culminated with their discharge LIVE where they showed just how close they really are, confirming that they snuggled together, showered together, ate together, and shared their dreams about their future with each other at night. Then, they traveled together AGAIN (never confirming it themselves except once when someone asked about their Vietnam trip on their Live). Afterwards, they went to LA for work with the other members. We saw them out together for dinner, heard rumors of motorcycle rides together, they told us about various times they hung out (🍜) AND we got the Jikook Live of the Century™️. (Still haven’t recovered from that by the way)
Come on! You’d think this would be enough to satisfy insecure Jkkrs and to shut those other groups UP. But no. Because the minute Jungkook left to go on a trip to SK, the minute Tae posted photos/videos of he and Jungkook on an airplane, the minute Jungkook posts some sad song recommendations, the minute Jikook got quiet….every other thing about Jikook’s closeness ceased to exist. 🤦🏼♀️ Tkkrs exploded with more Taekook Married! Proclamations, completely ignoring anything that doesn’t fit their narrative. Winkook shippers are frothing at the mouth over insignificant coincidences, and insecure Jkkrs continue to suffer. But listen, if we rely on historical evidence, we can rest assured that everything is fine with Jikook. They are just living their happy lives and don’t feel compelled to report their whereabouts and actions to us. At some point, we will find out that they’ve been working, hanging out, etc. just like they always do, without any thoughts about whether we believe it or not.
(Disclosure: I’m not saying it’s wrong to have feelings about it. To be honest, I’m not perfect nor am I immune to insecurity. I’ve had my own moment or two of disappointment, and have shared them in my private Jikook circles. But mostly, it’s me projecting my own feelings onto the situation. And always, Jikook’s history and obvious devotion to each other sets me straight!)
So! What I’m trying to say in this longer than expected post is that Jikook’s absence doesn’t mean ANYTHING negative. We need to remember who they are, how they act, how they clearly feel about each other, and then just WAIT. Because eventually, Jikook shows up.
