I just came up with a a theory about Gil-Galad’s ancestry:
What if he’s the son of Earendil and Elwing, born either at sea or in Valinor? I believe the first time we really see him is helping the survivors of the War of Wrath- what if he begged his Adar to let him come along the first time he took flight, and so literally showed up in middle earth for the first time at the War of Wrath? It would also explain the name: of course the son of Earendil would have the name Starlight. It would also explain why he gave Elrond everything. He gave him the position of herald, he gave him his ring,- why would he do that for some random guy? But for his unwitting older brother… of course he would leave him everything. And in the War of the Last Alliance, of course he was so willing to fight beside and for Elendil and his sons- they are the descendants of Elros, who he never really got to know.

a complete unsupported idea, but one I’m very attached to.
Elros’ children, like Elrond’s had the Choice and when Elrond arrives in Valinor his niece Tindomiel is waiting to greet him
