Glimmer for the ask game!

Okay, so it’s been a while since I got this, so I kinda forgot exactly which of the ask games this was for, but I’m gonna try my best to choose the one that I think I reblogged around the time this came in?

My OTP for them: Glow/Glimbow, definitely. Honestly, her and Bow together might be my favorite ship in the series, period.

My BroTP for them: Glimmer and Adora. 

Other ships: I don’t really have any other serious ships for Glimmer, honestly? I do think she finds Catra sort of attractive, but is too annoyed by her to be interested in an actual relationship even she didn’t know that Catra and Adora had a thing for each other. 

My favorite nickname for them: I mean, her only real nickname in the show is “Sparkles”, so I guess that’s my favorite by default. Though I do also like the idea that Bow sometimes calls her “Glim” when they’re alone together. 

My favorite outfit they wear: Probably her Princess Prom dress, though I do also like her Queen outfit, even if I don’t think the design completely fits her - it really does feel like she picked that outfit because she wanted to be like her mom now that she had to be the new Queen.

Color that reminds me of them: A sort of purplish-pink, I don’t know the exact name for it. 

Song that reminds me of them: Gonna steal one from Noelle’s playlist, but probably gonna go with “Rebel Heart” by First Aid Kit. But, honestly, I’m just bad at making associations between songs and characters/ships.

A fic idea for them: This is sort of a shippy fic idea, but I’m gonna share it anyway - basically a fake engagement story where Glimmer decides to get around a “royalty only” rule for a party by claiming she and Bow are engaged, and the consequences of that. 

Three TV Tropes that apply to them: Literally gonna cheat and just take some tropes from her character page on that site. Gonna go with “Determinator”, “Green-Eyed Monster”, and “Kung-Fu Wizard”.

General opinion/misc thoughts: She is honestly one of my absolute favorite characters ever, and while I wasn’t always 100% happy with the direction her character went in Season 4, I still love her like crazy and feel like she’s a character who gets a lot of undeserved hate?

1) Isaac & Abraham, Joan Baez. The simple instrumentation (I think it’s a washboard and a maraca and nothing else) under Baez’s intense voice really drives home how hideous the request to murder one’s child for a god would be.

2) We Are the Crystal Gems (extended), Steven Universe. I’m not cheating, this came up in shuffle. Y’all know how important this show is to me so I’m not even sure what to say... remember that one promo where they looped Pearl’s what we really aaaare like it was super creepy?

3) Til My Head Falls Off, They Might Be Giants. There were eighty-seven advil in the bottle, now there’s thirty left! I ate forty-seven, so what happened to the other ten?? This is a great song to holler along with, which is kind of odd when it’s about aging and feeling alone and mistrustful....

4) Strawberry Gashes, Jack Off Jill. Oof. It’s a gorgeous song, but it’s a very raw look into guilt, told from the perspective of a friend who couldn’t stop someone from self-harming and eventually killing herself, so. Have a good hot cup of tea before you start listening to it.

5) Hush, Here Comes A Whizz-Bang, Oh! What a Lovely War. If you haven’t heard of this show you are in for an incredibly depressing treat-- it’s a surreal musical about WWI, made up of actual period war songs. The show doesn’t start until they find someone in the audience willing to shoot Arch Duke Ferdinand. The film is quite good too, actually.

6) Gasoline, Halsey. Do you call yourself a fuckin’ hurricane like me? This one’s haunting, fame and depression feeding into each other to create an intense depersonalization.

7) Prelude/The Ballad of Sweeney Todd, Sweeney Todd. The one that came up on shuffle was the OBC, but my favourite is actually the revival with Patti LuPone. It’s a hell of a show. (don’t talk to me about the movie; how could something costumed by Colleen Atwood betray me so thoroughly? Oh, wait, the Burton Alice movie did too....)

8) Things That Scare Me, Neko Case. Case’s voice is so melodious and eerie, and she paints incredible little pictures. The same birds that followed me to school when I was young... were they trying to tell me something? Were they telling me to run?

9) Horseshoes, Moxy Früvous. Fun fact: when we were little kids, my sister and I named ‘our band’ after a misheard lyric from this song. It’s “look straight at the coming disaster”, and we called ourselves Common Disaster. (I actually like the live version of this song better than the studio one but maybe that’s cos I listened to Live Noise a lot as a kid.)

10) One Week, Barenaked Ladies. I was confused by this song for a long time, but eventually it just clicked with me that one of the sources of conflict in the relationship is that the narrator doesn’t appear to take things seriously, and the of-topic raps are a demonstration of that, and now I love it.

Flashfic One: I Heart You

It ought to be intimidating, really, and Jean-Luc Picard imagined that if he were more or less anyone else, it would be; reciting ancient vows amidst the pulsating spectrum and deafening chemistry of the Heart Nebula wasn’t, after all, quite how his childhood self had ever dared to imagine a future marriage may be affirmed.

But, then, that was his lot, wasn’t it? It was what one grew to expect when they’d long since committed themselves to an eons-old deity, and as much as it gnawed at his formerly human sensibilities, it ignited a torch of primal excitement in his very soul. This was the literal heart of his personal mission to explore the cosmos, with the very entity he wanted to explore it with. An official beginning, really, long after they’d had one.

Rouge bellowed silently around them, a cascade of beauty, an altar and aisle at its centre, and he swallowed silently. He wasn’t nervous; it was all just a little... overwhelming.

“I hope you didn’t think I was going to marry you in any sort of conventional way, my dear. Not particularly me, is it?”

Picard span, anticipation thrilling up his spine, to find the entity he was moments away from permanently uniting with - they’d been deliberately cagey regarding their dress code for the event, and it had been driving him mad with intrigue.

Q’s floor-length dress shimmered in silvered glitter, dazzling even at the core of the spatial phenomena, his lips a fierce violet and grin light-years wide.

Of course he’s wearing a dress, Jean-Luc, he noted in dizzied amusement, entranced. Why wouldn’t he be?

“Classic,” Q commented softly, taking in the brilliant white of the Starfleet occasion uniform with honeyed eyes. “Beautiful nevertheless, darling.”

“Indeed,” came the hoarse response, emotional compromise seeming to take form; his words absolutely failed him, an alarming moment in the newly-acquired immortality of a diplomat. Their stares burned into one another’s for a long moment with both appreciation and significance, an unspoken acknowledgement of how far they’d come, and how much further they would one day go. It seemed to draw out for decades -

A throat cleared pointedly behind them.

“Just because I have literally forever,” Junior began icily, “does not mean I want to stand here for the whole of it!”

“Oh, shush!” Amanda chastised beside him, bubblegum ballgown’s statement at odds with the tissue she was already clutching near watery eyes. “Let them have a moment, would you?!”

“Yeah, kid - shut up,” Q ordered his son vaguely, gaze never leaving the former captain’s. “Are you ready, Jean-Luc?”

“I -” A clarifying breath, a singular nod, a beam of stellar proportions. “Always, mon dieu.”
