Is the only thing Tom King can do is make "S stands for Hope" jokes and talk about 9/11
Can Tom King just not?? I just found out in one comic run he did, that he made Guy Gardner an obsessive ex and had Tora kill him??? What?????
I’ve been sitting on this for a while
Tom King stans on twitter will throw tantrums over Williamson trying to make Wally West a salvageable, usable character again, but point out how King retconned a Latin-American superhero into being a dangerous, child-killing drug addict and they either refuse to acknowledge it or just dismiss it.
Tom King stans after the ‘subliminal Eobard’ retcon: This is EVERYTHING WRONG WITH COMICS! Fuck this and everything it represents!
Tom King stans about the ‘Victor Mancha was always a drug addict retcon: Um. I mean, I *guess* that’s kinda bad. If you look at it in a certain way.
And that’s without getting into his treatment of Hotspot in HiC, which is a whole bloody issue unto itself.
Me: Man, intrusive thoughts are kicking my ass today. If only I had some good news...

Me:
Y’know, I honestly would not have thought that ‘linking mental illness to mass shootings is bad’ would be such a contentious take. I am continually bewildered at how many people refuse to acknowledge any problem with making your big marquee statement about mental health ‘Wally West snapped and caused a massacre because of his trauma.’
But maybe that’s just me being naive. After all, people have spent YEARS defending DC’s decision to straight-up erase Barbara Gordon’s disability (not just from the mainstream comics, but from almost all adaptations.)
Isn’t it just terrific how T*m King thinks turning Wally West into a mass shooter makes him ‘human’ and ‘vulnerable’?
Because it’s not like he’s ever been either of those things before, right?
I mean, it’s not like he’s ever been shown struggling with insecurity or fear before, right?
It’s not like thinking ‘Barry’ had turned on him ripped his heart out and left him slumped over in his apartment for days, too out of it to tell anyone but Linda he was even still alive.
It’s not like he was explicitly shown to be afraid of starting a life with Linda because he was afraid of being that happy and knowing it couldn’t last forever.
Nope. Not in the slightest.
