UPDATE: i’m back to being paid. thanks to my boss for pulling through
I had started a project as a volunteer, then promised pay, then had it taken away because of the hiring freeze. I try not to let it affect me much, but to be honest I’ve always struggled with feelings of worthlessness surrounding unemployment. What makes me the most sad is about how my mom’s views on money and power make me too ashamed to tell her that my pay was taken away. I’m very proud of the work I’m doing for this project, so I agreed to continue “volunteering.” This project also opens me up to a strong network and puts me in a good position to pursue public office someday. I just need to reiterate to myself that I will get paid my worth someday and financial independence is still just out of reach.
