Out there on Earth, there's a man living his life, having no idea that he has helped save an indigenous species light years away from his home planet, all because he killed some guy's twin brother for a few bucks.

Someone probably thought about it before, but...

The thought of Jake repeating, "Sullys stick together" because the last time they didn't, Tommy died alone in the streets, and he wasn't there for him 😭😭😭

Do you think Jake ever misses being human because of Tommy? Like… when he was human, he at least still looked exactly like his twin. They were identical, and that meant something. Even after Tommy died, Jake was still walking around with his face, like he was the last proof that Tommy ever existed.

But now Jake doesn’t even have that. His avatar was literally grown for Tommy, so he’s wearing his brother’s face in the most twisted way possible. And there’s no second avatar for Tommy, no version of him that gets to live. It’s just Jake, alone, in a body that was never meant to be his. So now he’s not even identical to his twin anymore — he’s the only one left, and he doesn’t even look like himself or his brother. It’s like losing Tommy all over again, but this time in the mirror.

Avatar (2009) AU, reach with me here...

Bit out of left field for me, I know, but I was revisiting it (with this awesome fic) and I had a thought.

What if Tommy, while his twin was still in the hospital, immediately after hearing what happened went to the RDA to make an odd request.

A very quickly scraped together business proposal; they make his brother an Avatar, so that they can experiment with the security personnel also having a body built for the world of Pandora.

He makes the argument very compelling; only one experimental Avatar, just for one person, who Tommy knows would never betray them (him specifically but they don't need to know that) and has a fantastic military record.

The RDA, aware of issues with the locals and already secretly making plans to do this (Recom Quaritch would have had to have been in the brainstorming stages at this point for the company as a Just In Case) agrees.

Because Jake needs the same training, at least at bare minimum, that Tommy has, Jake is with Tommy when someone tries to mug Tommy. Tommy has protection. Tommy doesn't die.

They both go to Pandora, Tommy as the scientist and Jake as the guard.

If a fic like this already exists, which I think it must because this movie is from 2009, please let me know so I can read it!

What even are dreams, because why the fuck did I wake up from a dream today where Jake is on still on Earth, he doesn’t know anything about the Na’vi, Tommy never died, they’re mid conversation, and suddenly Lo’ak and Neteyam spawn in and go “hey dad.” Then Jake just stares at them like “fym dad? You’re eight foot tall and blue, what the actual fuck? Who are you?” then immediately assumes someone definitely spiked his drink.
